ok i have heard a ton of fishiermen claim that color doesnt amount to a hill of beans. well does it? i have pondered this for many years and i have come to my own conclusion that it does.in the spring of 07 and the fall i was having great sucess with a zoom speed craw in watermelon seed at a lake and was feeling guilty cause my wife wasnt catching anything so i decided to share. after 10 or so fish a peice they were gone and too wore out to work right so i switched to a green pumkin and the fish shut down went two and a half hours without a bite and the i realized i had berkley chigger craws in watermelon seed boom it was back on we fished until dark catch another 10 or so a peice. this has happened to me on two different lakes with this watermelon seed craw. with thta being said whats some other opinions , does or doesnt it matter?

I think color makes a huge difference. I think it is just as important as size of lure. However, I think the biggest factor is location.
color matters...if it didnt then everything wouldnt come in a hundred different colors. All your really trying to do is match what the fish are feeding on. Or if their spawing try to piss them off enough to get a reaction strike.
I HAVE TO AGREE....IF COLOR DIDN'T MATTER, WE WOULDN'T HAVE A GAZILLION COLOR CHOICES! OF COURSE, THERE ARE A FEW COLOR SCHEMES THAT ALWAYS PRODUCE DUE TO THERE SIMILARITY TO THE REAL THING. HOWEVER, THERE ARE TIMES (SPAWN) WHEN THE CRAZIER THE COLOR, AND MORE ANNOYING THE BAIT....THE BETTER!
I HAVE A LAKE I FISH A LOT....WHEN I FISHED IT FOR THE FIRST TIME I STRUGGLED FOR MOST OF THE DAY. I THREW EVERYTHING I HAD....EVERYTHING EXCEPT A GREEN WATERMELON FINESS WORM. AS SOON AS I TIED ONE ON...AND IT HIT THE WATER....BOOM! ENDED UP KILLING 'EM...INCLUDING A 6.5# BUCKETMOUTH! I HAD TRIED THE EXACT SAME WORM IN RED SHAD, JUNEBUG, PUMPKIN, ETC. WITH NO SUCCESS. I STILL CAN'T CATCH ANYTHING ON THAT LAKE, UNLESS IT'S GREEN WATERMELON? COLOR MATTERS!!! HAGD!
i think we all know they come in 100 different colors so we will all go buy 100 different colors, but matching the natural bait is important on bright days.... with jigs, i think you only need 2 or 3 colors, with crank baits maybe 4 or 5..... i have been out many days where fish would bite on model a bombers, no matter what the color, and i have been out on days where white crank baits work, doesn't matter what brand
keep in mind that depth and speed are directly related to color
my favorite bait(the one that will always land me some fish) is the berkley gulp turtle back worm, in tequila sunrise.Black and Hot Pink and the bass love them.
Yea and women have been tellling us size doesn't matter either, do you believe that??????? Color sometimes means nothing, but most of the time it means everything.
I think color matters most in clear water, and size may be a big factor in stained to muddy water. I'm color blind, so if it's not marked on the package or whoever is in the boat don't tell me what i'm throwing, i don't have a clue anyway.
i guess that came out the wrong way, i don't like choosing from 1,000 shades of grey, so i have about 5 basic patterns: shad, craw, clown, and a couple more, not saying you can't ever use those other 95 colors on the market, just that most of us aren't good enough to know the difference
I've seen on plenty of occasions where color matters. Downrigging with different colored jigs on each side and only getting fish on one color even though both colors are at the same depths. Fishing with one color plug for smallies and doing well while my partner is getting shut out, he switches color, but has a different lure and starts catching.
The 100 colors on the market are so that anglers will buy at least one of each.
Its more of a general thing: they want something with some gold in it, they want dark over light, etc. Not the: its gotta be just like this type of bait. Think about it. If you lure exactly matches the other 100,000 bait in a school, how does a preditor fish pick out you lure to hit? They don't.
Color does not matter every day, but on those days that it does, you better have the right color.

color matters tremendously in my book...i dont think you could catch mor fish on a white jig than a black and blue could you?I doubt it
