Re: color selection / does it matter or not???

I think color matters most in clear water, and size may be a big factor in stained to muddy water. I'm color blind, so if it's not marked on the package or whoever is in the boat don't tell me what i'm throwing, i don't have a clue anyway.

i guess that came out the wrong way, i don't like choosing from 1,000 shades of grey, so i have about 5 basic patterns: shad, craw, clown, and a couple more, not saying you can't ever use those other 95 colors on the market, just that most of us aren't good enough to know the difference

Re: color selection / does it matter or not???

I've seen on plenty of occasions where color matters. Downrigging with different colored jigs on each side and only getting fish on one color even though both colors are at the same depths. Fishing with one color plug for smallies and doing well while my partner is getting shut out, he switches color, but has a different lure and starts catching.

The 100 colors on the market are so that anglers will buy at least one of each.

Its more of a general thing: they want something with some gold in it, they want dark over light, etc. Not the: its gotta be just like this type of bait. Think about it. If you lure exactly matches the other 100,000 bait in a school, how does a preditor fish pick out you lure to hit? They don't.

Color does not matter every day, but on those days that it does, you better have the right color.

I think color matters but not to the extend of most fisherman. I'm of the belief that major color fluctuations matter but not the subtle hues of colors such as green/pumpkin by Zoom compared to green/pumpkin by Culprit. When you compare white to black that matters but it's not absolute, nothing is in fishing. Of course there are extreme examples of when color was the key and when it didn't matter at all. I keep maybe four or five colors of soft plastics and usually only use one or two throughout the day. I'll adjust weight and lure size more than color. I think location matters more than color....JMO
