Whats the best way to rig this bait.texes or carolina ? whats the purpose in the slit in the top of the bait.
the slit on top of the bait is to hide the tip of the hook when rigged texas style. Helps keep it weedless
I use the zoom Flukes, but those look good too. I like them on a weightless texas rig the best, although i have used the wieghted hooks before some too. Weightless they have a nice slow fall to them, and really twitch around when you rip them.
I have even tried a rig with two of them using a couple of swivles. Have one swivle tied on with about a three foot leader - just above that have one swivle on your main line (not tied on but on the line where it can slide up and down using the other swivel to stop it). On that "free" swivel have a second leader about half the length of the first. Rig them both weightless texas style. You would think they would become a tangled mess, but they rarely ever get tangled. When you twitch them they will go in different directions and make a criss-cross pattern on a steady twitch retrieve. I haven't had too much luck with this, but I haven't fished it much either. It really does look awesome. I saw it on Woo Daves dvd and had to try it.
Been throwing that rig down here for years and it works great on schooling bass, especially in early morning or late evening in summer off the grass beds.I use the zoom Flukes, but those look good too. I saw a show the other day, Bass Pros or one of them that has Denny Brauer as the host, where I think it was Mark Menedez had a two way rig and he hooked one 6 pounder then as he was fighting it hooked another that looked at least 5, landed both of them with the help of his partner. I immediately called Cliff and told him it was the best catch I ever saw. 11 pounds in the box on 2 fish with one cast. 3 cast like that a day will make a man a pretty good living.
