    Question Rod action question

There's been a ton of really good info posted lately about baitcasters, and about jig fishing, but there's one question I haven't found an answer to. Like dabassking, I'm going to be buying my first baitcasting combo soon. I plan on using it almost exclusively for jig fishing. I'm 6'2", with pretty long arms, and I'm thinking I'll probably start with about a 7" MH rod, but I haven't figured out what kind of action I want in that rod? Fast? Mod? X-fast? What's best for jigs? Thanks for the help...

    Re: Rod action question

I just bought 2 custom rods from T & T Custom Rods, just for that very purpose you mention. I got one for worm fishing and one for jig fishing. Both are "MH" but with real sensitive tips in a 7' length. Plus I just ordered a Spinning rod in a 6'6" model of Medium action just for Drop shotting or Shakey Head presentations when needed.

I would go with fast or x-fast for accuracy in your lure presentations plus they are very strong in the mid to butt section for power when needed. JMO

I'll second that---fast or X-fast---both should work just fine.

Another vote for fast action. I use a heavy with a fast tip, and love it. I like fast action for almost everything.

Med Heavy or heavy, but think about a 7'6"model and dont order the rod
you need to pick it out in person...

7' MH 12-20 lb rating or thereabouts. I think the 7 1/2' flipping rods are just too cumbersome to pitch or cast with all day. especially when working the bait back to boat on bottom. or when you are wanting to fish 1/4 oz jigs. But for close in fishiing, they work wonders.

Prefer fast action 7'MH for jigs and C-rigs. Always fall back to 6'6" MH for t-rigs and a good 7'6'M for cranks. Fast tips in all.

i went with the fast tip with mine. it gives you the sensitivity needed for the light bites but enough backbone to pull em from the thick cover....good luck!
