Re: What does a guy have to do.....
Hey Man....here's a NEVER GIVE UP story just for you from last weekend on DH.
Fri. the 8th we caught 10 ~ 6 jig/ 4 fly (one over 4.6, rest slots+ one 2.5 lb larry) with no wind, blue sky and high pressure in mostly clear to slightly stained water. So we're thinking...they've got to start hitting better tomorrow...right?
We started fishing more cover...stained to muddy water because those fish SHOULD be less affected by the conditions and shallower. We'll they weren't eating as good as we thought. Sat we struggled with 4 fish boated all slots, 2 shook off at near the boat and 2 break offs while fishing cover. For the afternoon, we went back to clearer water...still slow.
45 minutes till dark...we head to a spot near the ramp where we can usually stick at least one. My buddies on the fly....I'm jigging. 3rd cast on the point BAM 4.4...while I'm unhooking... my buddies bobber drops 2 lber. I throw back on the point 15˚ different angle from the last cast....BAM 3.6 .. I unhook and throw back in....BAM...BACK to BACK to BACK.....this one is significantly larger than the last two and I'm hangin on. After about a minute, it comes up close enough to see, but I'm not sure what I'm seeing...my buddy says I think that is a giant smallie? I said this thing has got to 7-8 lbs & nearly 3' long...it's freak'n huge ...no way! Finally get it up to net and it's a Walleye...let down.... too big for the net. 8 lbs 5 oz. I grab it and today, while I type...I'm feasting on left-over blackened Walleye....delicious! It's as good as any grouper or cod....I'm tellin ya man. We ended up with 7 bass ~6 jig/ 1 fly one over, one larry, one under, rest slots.
I wasn't even close to a great trip, but we had a blast. I consider fishing to be very much like life. It's a grind sometimes...if not all the time. It's not easy and I know you are really suffering. Keep hoping and trusting that this is just a few bumps in the road and a part of bigger plan for you that you may not understand. You may be able to look back and see it later, but now it's rough. I think we would all like you to off the meds and on some fresh air/brown fish ratio that gets you right. Don't rush it....I'll be calling you soon and we'll get that trip in March setup Lord willing.
Talk with you soon,
Mark

Re: What does a guy have to do.....
Sorry el, my health problems are bearable now, if you call inserting a tube you know where, but now my lady friend is doing the hospital tour, sometimes you wonder why me? My first wife was ill for awhile, and for 6 yrs i worked and took care of her, there was one stretch where she was hospitalized for 4 months. The second one, well we had 14 good years, but a lot of hospital time also, then the cancer took her. Looks like its starting all over again, but living just minutes away from the lakes, every chance I get, my boat gets wet, just hoping for several more good years, keep the faith, and remember the good days. Some times when I'm bemoaning the hand I'm dealt, I just think, that some of my bad days were better than a lot of folks good days ever were and will be.
