    Cool Re: Fishing Partner

Nice thread and great topic. From my perspective, I agree with Col Forbin "follow the golden rule".

As for me, i'm not into tournament fishing (great for those that are, just not my cup of tea), just like to spend some time on the water trying to outsmart those fishes. Never in a big rush, never felt the need to "gun and run" trying to find the next fish. Ok for others, just not my style. So, given that, if I have an open seat, and they bring lunch, pay half of the boat gas, and assist with launching and retriving the boat, thats great.

Always nice to have another likeminded fisherman in the boat.

    Good Fishing to All,
    Gary

I also agree with the "golden rule" principle, but would add that it can depend somewhat on who asks who. Like if I'm wanting to go and need a partner, and I know my buddy's a little short on cash, I'll offer to take him and tell him not to worry about it. But if he's just hit a lick at the track and is dying to go, he might call me and offer to sponsor a trip. It all evens out in the end.

Just once I would have liked my B-I-L, who was always wanting to go or calling me asking to take him...Would have offered to buy some of the gas.....Lunch or at least offered somethin....But he thought it was always going to be a free ride, even when he asked me to take him......

Just about everyone i fish with is in the same finacial situation as me lol.We depend on halfers to get us out on the water most of the time. But if one is down and out he rides for free with out the least bit of guilt.Thats what friends are for and we all enjoy the company.Chip in if you can and if you cant thats fine too,if i didnt like someone i wouldnt fish with them anyway. If money is tight for both we just dont ride as far but we still have fun.A good friend and fishing partner will never be ruined for me over money.Im lucky though i deal with some real good guys.

    Re: Fishing Partner

Tournaments, I split everything in half. I start out with a full truck and boat of gas and when I get home, I want to have a full boat and truck and we split everything we used. I feel that's pretty fair. Entry's split half, winnings half, etc.

Now, if for fun and it's somewhere close---I wouldn't worry about it. Buyt, if I am going somewhere far, like Cumberland or KY Lake, I feel if anybody goes, they should chip in some money. But, everybody I fish with has a boat and they know the expenses and they usually pay up without asking---I feel that's just the way it is. At least I know I would offer money. Fishing isn't cheap anymore---at least not going to the "good" lakes. Their pretty expensive for me.
Didn't seem to be so bad years ago, but these gas prices sure make everybody watch what they do---it really stinks too. I sure have passed up fishing many times because of money.

We split everything 50/50, but if my partner dosent have the cash or its a bad time I let it slide. They ussually pay me back down the road.
