Just once I would have liked my B-I-L, who was always wanting to go or calling me asking to take him...Would have offered to buy some of the gas.....Lunch or at least offered somethin....But he thought it was always going to be a free ride, even when he asked me to take him......

Just about everyone i fish with is in the same finacial situation as me lol.We depend on halfers to get us out on the water most of the time. But if one is down and out he rides for free with out the least bit of guilt.Thats what friends are for and we all enjoy the company.Chip in if you can and if you cant thats fine too,if i didnt like someone i wouldnt fish with them anyway. If money is tight for both we just dont ride as far but we still have fun.A good friend and fishing partner will never be ruined for me over money.Im lucky though i deal with some real good guys.

    Re: Fishing Partner

Tournaments, I split everything in half. I start out with a full truck and boat of gas and when I get home, I want to have a full boat and truck and we split everything we used. I feel that's pretty fair. Entry's split half, winnings half, etc.

Now, if for fun and it's somewhere close---I wouldn't worry about it. Buyt, if I am going somewhere far, like Cumberland or KY Lake, I feel if anybody goes, they should chip in some money. But, everybody I fish with has a boat and they know the expenses and they usually pay up without asking---I feel that's just the way it is. At least I know I would offer money. Fishing isn't cheap anymore---at least not going to the "good" lakes. Their pretty expensive for me.
Didn't seem to be so bad years ago, but these gas prices sure make everybody watch what they do---it really stinks too. I sure have passed up fishing many times because of money.

We split everything 50/50, but if my partner dosent have the cash or its a bad time I let it slide. They ussually pay me back down the road.

My truck, my boat, my gas. Pardner pays entry fees. Some close to home tournaments, some run alot. Split any winnings. All in all, over the course of the season it evens out. We've fished together for 25 years so our system works for us!!

When I fish with someone in my boat, I am always open to any suggestion on where to fish or how to fish. I also always cast in front of the boat so my bait is back to the boat before it is even with me. I also attempt to leave plenty of untouched spots for the back guy to hit. My front deck is kinda small so it is challenging to both fish the front.

Why won't you let the other guy use the trolling motor?

If the guy is a normal fishing buddy he should pay half. If not take a frend fishing.

    Re: Fishing Partner

If your serious... Among the guys I fish with, he who owns the boat, controls the boat. I think we all try to agree on the banks to fish and no one tries to put the back of the boat out in the lake.

Maybe it is just my experience, but it seems odd to me that I should expect to run someone else's boat unless they are taking break. If there is a problem with postion for the back of the boat, we both fish on the front.

When my father and I fish together, we argue over who has to run the trolling motor.

Always split cost of gas in truck. Boat is always 1/2 full so that don't count with me. I usually get the food, the old man the drinks, we split truck fuel. He never wants the front so thats even better for me!
