    Shelf Life of Mono Line??

Planning on hitting Cumberland in 2 weeks, if able, to pull planer boards for Stripers for the freezer. My question is that I put new Mono line in my 5trolling reels in October 2006 and I used them for 3 days then and they have been stored in my climate controlled garage ever since and not been used. I have always been of the "When in doubt, change the line theory", but not looking forward to stripping off 300 yards from each reel then re-spooling if not needed. Will this mono still have its original strength or do I need to go ahead and re-spool????

Check the strength good Woody, but for trolling it's probably alright. Although I must admit I might change it out myself. Just think if that ole biggun gets on there and snaps it, dang it that would hurt wouldn't it.

As far as shelf life, When still in the box as long as not stored in drastic(cold or hot) temperatures, mono will still be good.

But when you take the line off the filler spool and put it on a reel, thats when you might have trouble with memory and the line coiling up on you real bad. Which could mean weakness in the line.

I normally keep my line on my Striper trolling setups throughout the year, its 20-30LB Big Game. Its real tuff stuff, and very inexpensive to replace when i do decide to get it off.

If you just go a few times, it would probably be alright. But if you are planning on going some more through the year, I'd suggest getting some fresh line on there before your first trip and then you won't have any doubt.
If your unsure, its better safe than sorry... Ya gotta have confidence in your equipment!

I think for peice of mind I would change change the line. I change my line at least twice a year if it needs or not. With new line you will feel better when the drag starts singing that old song we love. Goood Luck LOL

I would not worry about it elnut, I used to use 25# stren for two years at a time. Line is much better now than 15 years ago so just spray some KVD line dressing on there and enjoy getting out of the house. Good luck.

We will see how tough I really am, for I only have about 10 more days to get better for this trip. Should be the easiest fishing (guiding) trip that I will ever be on. Planning on finding the fish, setting out the 4 planer boards and 1 balloon out the back, then manning the trolling motor and fillet knife. My dad will be there the first 2 days to reel them in and Cliff the last 2 days to do the reeling. I will net them but they get to swing them over the side from there. What a deal for these 2 fellas, get to enjoy 8-9 hours in the boat with me telling them fish lies and doing all the catching (if there is any catching to be done). I will be scoping out some FNF areas while down there and I will at least have to catch one Brownie some time during the 4 days. Mainly targeting Stripers for the freezer and even some tasty KY's if the Stripers are not working out. I have no problem filleting either of these two for the table.

I'm really glad to hear you're getting back out on the water. I know that means a lot to you. Just be careful out there, man.
