Just never put your motor in reverse and you don't have to worry about those pesky seals getting eaten.

Seriously, I know what you mean. I've had that happen twice. It has never hurt the gears in the lower unit but it gets real old replacing the seals and putting new lube in.

Plastics being thrown in the water is a problem as well.

Nothing should be thrown in the water. I can't imagine why anyone would ever even consider throwing anything in a lake or out the window of a car. I guess it has something to do with how you were raised or not so much raised.

Yes, plastic is deffenitly a big problem. As you all know I fish the river and it is amazing the amount I see.In the winter after the trees lose there leaves and the river rises then falls the plastic in the trees looks like tinsel...I brought this to the attention of one of my fishing buddie's one day and after he started looking around, he could'nt believe the amount left,it's hard to believe the fish can still live in this enviroment. And thank god they stop putting Big Mac's in styrofoam cantainers. As far as line goes I try to pack out as much as I find plus I ussually get free lead. Tell me why we have people sitting in jail watching cable TV and our rivers and lakes are neglected??? Sorry to rant but this has been a real sore spot for me for years...

I read somewhere that it's a good idea to use a snap if you're using 20 or 30 pound braid and fishing with jigs, so that if you get hung up really badly, you can pull the snap apart and not leave behind non-biodegradable braided line. It makes sense to me, but then I haven't done it that much.

Yikes! I'm guilty of leaving some of that braid and now that you mentioned this it makes alot of sense. I always take up any line I can retrieve from being hung up. Not a big fan of old trot lines either!

On my last trip out, I snagged up hook, line, sinker, & ugly stick! Came off as I was reaching for it and went back down into the river. Thought I would end up snagging it again but guess it's still out there.

I once reeled in a cast net below the bear traps at Mcalpine. And I never throw line,trash,etc overboard. The inside of my boat after a day on the river will attest to that!

Got my trolling motor tangled in what I thought was someones trot line and to my surprise there were two nice 4 to 5 pound largemouths tied up. It just so happens that there was a tournament the next day and someone was cheating. Shame shame on you. I turned em' loose and smiled. Didn't mind taking my trolling motor apart after that!

I found it very easy to just wind up to be discarded line stick it in my pocket. You should check your pockets when you get home or you may suffer a far greater pain from your spouse when your discarded line gets wrapped around clothes in the washer.

That's exactly what I do to. That and the line tags that are cut off after tieing on a bait I just let collect in the boat. You can always tell if they aren't biting to good by looking at the deck carpet, the more the line tags the bite wasn't good, the less the better, lol.

I hate trot lines!
One of the best fishing spots on the bay of KY Lake has several trot lines stretched across the area. That's not right to take over a fishing spot 24/7. I felt like taking a sword and slashing the trot line up into pieces or dragging a big cutting tool though the water behind my boat that would cut though the line and cut it up and get it out of the way.

I wanted to troll crank though this area and fish with crank baits but I was afraid of snagging onto the trot line. I should have cut the thing up into little pieces and fished that area anyway. But I'd have to take a M16 with me if I did that just to protect myself from retrobution of the locals who set them things there in the first place.

They should not allow trot lines to be set at the mouth of bays like that.
