Re: Grand Pa...Will You Take Me Fishing?

Correction: they stocked both ponds in January, so if you can find decent weather, the fishing should be good. Lower Sportsman's Lake is smaller, and only children 12 and under are allowed to fish in it.

The State Game farm in Frankfort has at least one pond that is open for public fishing, maybe more. I think they call it the Salato Wildlife Center. the ponds there are supposed to have good bank access. That would be a good place to try. You could let them check out the other stuff there, too.

Re: Grand Pa...Will You Take Me Fishing?

Thanks again to Fishrgurl, Catdaddy863, Cobra190, Biggw, Wichita, RoadToad and Bull Bluegill for your help. So....here's where I'm at.....

Couldn't wait until next time the wife and I get up to Lexington to see the Grandson, so we went shoping in the local Evansville area for the New Fisherman.

Major items we picked up were a small size ,soft tackel bag, a "combo" Rino Spincast RSC3 mounted on a ~6-1/2 foot medium rod/with a glow tip. (I have ~ four of them, find them easy for children and other none fisher-persons (my wife), (includding my self)) to use for pan fish; crappie, etc..

Then I dropped back to the basics....a collection of floats (weighted and non-weighted), Bob's bobbers for FNF will have to wait a year or two before he can handle a 9 1/2 foot rod with 10" of leader on Lake Cumberland! Also picked up a collection of lead weights and some "Crappie Nibbles". "DID NOT BUY THE LITTLE GUY ANY HOOKS".... Need to stay on the safe side for now. His dad and I will provide hook's along with safety instructions every chance we get!! Will also, need to teach him how to tie a couple of "fishing knots", starting with the "palamor".

Right now, I am thinking we will try out the lake at the KDFWR game farm (Salato), just as soon as this spring get's here (COME ON) and we can get to Lexington. Hook, bobber, and a wax l worm sounds like a good way to start the new guy out. But Hey, can we catch a trout on FNF at the Game Farm?

Later, then we would like to try Elkhorn Creek. JCB and CATDADDY863, Drew (new fisherman) and I will be contacting you. Will also, check out fishing the Elkhorn from the Georgetown Parks.

Thanks again to all...can always count on the guys at Fishin.Com.

    Good Fishing to All,
    Gary

Well, the weather and my schedule are looking good to take the little guy fishing this Thursday afternoon. Thinking of taking him to (bank) fish in the Elkhorn at Georgetown (one of the city parks?).

I'll set him up to "bobber fish" and would appreciate any help on your suggestions as to what bait to use and what type of fish we should expect to catch.

If we don't go to Georgetown, then we will try the the Salato Game Farm and fish wax worms under the bobber.

    Thanks for any comments.

    Good Fishing to All,
    Gary

Underneath a bobber in my opinion, you can't go wrong with a good juicy wax worm.

My nieces and nephews (23 at last count) all call wax worms "bluegill crack" as the bluegill seem to be addicted to them. That would probably be your best bet...
