Advice for trip to Lake Cumberland

I am a disabled vet and, to be honest, am just taking up fishing as a serious past-time. My father is coming in from PA and my brother-in-law from MO for my birthday trip we planned for the weekend of 7-9 Mar. We have a guide named Dan White booked for the two mornings, but we are staying at an RV camp site (K-land? or some such place with the corps of eng.) which is right near a hatchery. I suspect some of you are familiar with the area and know what's what this time of year. With all this said, can someone tell me what/where we should fish during the time we are not on the boat? I am so lame I need to know what species is best and what to use to catch them too if that is possible? On the bright side I DO have ambition, a couple new rods and reels, and a desire to learn Thanks for any help anyone can be. Stay safe and keep your heads down.

Sounds Like You'll Be Staying @ The Wolf Creek Campground Right Next To The Wolfcreek National Trout Hatchery. This Is A Great Place To Get Into Some Trout. Some Of The Larger Post-spawn Trout Should Still Be In The Hatchery Creek That Runs Out Of The Hatchery And Down About 1 Mile To The Main Cumberland River. Try Walking Down Hatchery Creek, Past The Handicap/kid Fishing Section, And Fish The Lower Part. Flies Are The Lures Of Choice Down There. Try Beadhead Copperjohns And Pheasant Tails Size #18. I Slay Them There Every Winter, Averaging Trout Around 20". It's Fun! Good Luck To Ya All!

Is it Kendall you're staying at? That's also right next to the hatchery. I have a friend who camps there twice a year and he raves about the trout fishing. He tells me the bank access is excellent. I think you can also take tours of the hatchery.

throw a white or chartruse crappie jig with a small minnow. Fish the bank from the ramp below the dam all the way up to the concrete wall... You could catch trout, walleye,sauger, whites or rockfish. be prepares to lose a lot of baits.

Do not forget to have a trout stamp with you're license, I think you can get both right there at the Visitors center.

Pro V LE is right...if you're fishing in the Cumberland River you gotta have a trout stamp whether you're fishing for trout or not.

Thanks guys, I already had my family (from outta state coming in to go with me) buy them online when they got their licenses. I figured we will look so retarded they are bound to check on us TY again for everyones input/help, I appreciate all the good advice on here and via messages I got. Its nice to know there is a place to come and get answers and not ONE PERSON made fun of me for not knowing what the heck I was talking about (hope that changes when I figure it out, I hate to think fishermen have lost their reknowned sense of humor over the years . Thank you for your service, God help you finish this tour with improving health. The camp grond at kendal is close to a handicapped fishing area.Asfar as bank fishing the river, its pretty rough, its a pretty good climb back to the parking areas.Ky. ***** as far as handicaped fishing goes. Wish you a lot of luck, and a fun trip.
