    Re: espn Classic coverage

Shocking enough, espn did e-mail me back pretty quick. standard answer, "we appreciate your comments blah blah blah. we will forward to appropriate people. thank you." I'm sure it probably went in the trash. Jbyrd, yes they proably will have a show on devoted to the classic this coming weekend. But, when you advertise LIVE COVERAGE of the classic, which is the equivalent of the super bowl, the world series, daytona 500, they should do a better job. And yes, they can have live footage. The classic in Pitt 2 years ago had live footage, and in my opinon, much better coverage. They explained what Van Dam, Martens, and Ike were doing. I don't believe for one second delaing coverage so the anglers don't know what the leaders are doing holds water. They all have a good idea what each other are doing. And if theyre primary pattern fails, yes they will go somewhere else. I would bet Van Dam had a good idea where the guy in the river was and what he was doing to catch fish. But he probably didn't run up on top of the gut and set it down. Most of those guys at that level give each other plenty of leeway. And if he didin't the guy should have said so. I think the TNN reference keeps coming up because a lot of people feel they gave much more in depth coverage of what we as fisherman want to see. which is not Ike screaming and bear hugging a fish. Mark, I agree, Iwould have warned him one time about handling a fish like that, and then we would have fought if he did it again. And to clarify, I don't hate Ike. actually I think he's a **** good fisherman. He finishes strong under every condition thrown at them. But the screaming over a 2lb fish, the temper trantrums he throws, and the display 2 years ago when he broke the running light are a little too much. If it was every once in a while, it would be okay. But its every time he fishes he does this. And yes i have had a tantrum or 2 in the boat before. I've cussed over losing a fish, I've slammed a rod or 2 down. But not every time i hit the water.

    Question Re: espn Classic coverage

Is it just me or has BASS become more like Nascar? It has become all about the "show" rathar than the sport itself. I understand you have to have the sponsors and all the advertisement or it would not be possible in todays sociaty. ESPN is thriving on IKE because people are watching whether they like him or not. Its good for TV. I just think it his really going to hurt our sport, ecspecially the kids who are watching. Of course this is just my opinion. Like last years classic, with swindle, they dq him with the whole boating incident. Instead of hearing about Boyd winning you hear about him (swindle) being DQed. It was good for TV having him cry on stage.
As for the coverage, people say ESPN didnt want to show what people where fishing with, where, presentations, ext. b/c the competitors could watch and see what others where doing? I dont buy it. There were sometimes 30 spectator boats with a angler watching. Who is to say one of those boats was not a freind of (any angler competing) and reporting back to one of the anglers at night telling him what the other guy was doing. It is $500k right? If they are so worried about that, guess they should close the lake to everyone and air it the following week. Its just my opinion. Hope to not ruffel to many feathers!

    Re: espn Classic coverage

come on DJ thats a crock statement...not watching ESPN....lol
when your bb team is winning you'll be watching.....We all want better fishing shows and better coverage, hell I want it on HD, but that's only if its on the main channel...not the duece. But I'm happy for Alton he did a nice job hanging in.....

Good luck to all that strives to make the "Big Show"

    Re: espn Classic coverage

Guys, one question. Would you want someone asking you what bait you are using and how while your fishing the classic or any tournement? When it showed air views there wasnt a boat 50 yards from the angler. How many times have you been talking or something of that sort while fishing and miss a bite. That one fish could be the difference between 1 and 2 or even worse. Im sure that ESPN will have a greater in depth look into the classic later on the schedule. I do think they need to cut back on all the ads though. Sure ***** fast forwarding every few minutes.

You guys are all saying do it like flw, well if you think ikes handleing of the fish is bad just think what using a net on them does . Yes I use a net because it is a benefit ,BUT the number of times I have seen fish brought in espesially in the summer with sores that have the distint net pattern are to numerous to mention. I think we as human beings are ALL capable of improving something. ESPN didn't say they where perfect, If you guys don't like it maybe you can watch the Elien DeGenerous show or something like that
LOL JUST KIDDING see you would change that station so just change from espn....
I am stupid some one enlight me what does tnn have to do with anything we are talking about ????

    Re: espn Classic coverage

TNN is brought up because way back when in the before time, they did coverage of BASS Events. I still remember watching Denny Baurer winning the classic on TNN ten years ago, it got me into bass fishing and jig fishing. I am not a fan of ESPN's coverage of the classic. I dont even watch it anymore, the last one I watched was pittsburg. The Elite coverage for 07 I thought was very good and the recap show they done at then end of the year was very informative on jig fishing and swimbait fishing. I do like FLW coverage and I wish ESPN would bring back Schooled by Denny Baurer and Basscenter. I wish they would put some shows like VS's Bass Pros (Best show thats ever been on), Bass Edge, Fishing University. I have learned so much from the Bass Pros it aint even funny. They talk about 3 or 4 diffrent presentations in each show. If you havent checked out VS, you should. I think I will step off my soap box now, and let another one have a go.

Yeah, he tore up a boat last year and de-slimed a really good fish this years. Can't wait for next year...(LOL)
