You can get a Pfluger Echelron for about $60 bucks and Abu Garcia has a black max for $50. The Shimano Callisto is a decent reel also in $40 range. I am not a huge fan of BPS reels but some are real good reels.
How about the Daiwa Dendoh. Model MP3000 is only $2999.95. Page 55 of Offshore Angler catalog from BPS.
You gotta be sh***ing me!!
I would have to go with the older Curado. I have several and in my opinion they are great. You can get them off ebay for around $70 each.
Older curado, or new Citica ( $30 rebat) - same reel. I really like the BPS Johnny morris signature reel. It lists for $180, will be on sale for $130 and with a trade in on those certain days will be $104 - hard to beat that quality reel for that price. I like Quantum's have a rebate going on too, I would check those out.
The only BP real I have found to hold up tournament fishing is the pro-qualifier. You have to keep if well lubed though. I have yet to find a BP real that will hold up in the winter, they are not sealed tight enough. They will get wet, freeze, and your drag will slip. Lost too many fish that way. If i were you i would consentrate more on getting a good real as to a good rod. BP makes some descent rods for around $30-$40. You could buy a real from e-bay, but I personally like buying them new so I know what I have got. Check out BP starting Friday they are having a good sell. They have a KVD Quantum on sale for $79. I have two of the older version of that real and they are great. Best of luck.
