    jerkbaits & Braided Line

I have been thinking about using Braided line with jerkbaits. Had anyone used braided line with jerkbaits before? If so does it help or hurt the performance and hook ratio?

I have used braided line one soft plastic jerkbaits(Flukes) but mainly around cover and it seems to work good. I also used it on a spinning rod and reel. You can use braid on a hard jerkbait, but since braid has a tendency to float, you won't get the best action or depth as may be required.
I would suggest using flourocarbon for hard jerkbaits.

I would say that Flourocarbon would work better especially if you are trying to get the bait down to a specific depth. Medium action rod will also help the hook up ratio as to give a little and not pull the bait away from the fish on the set. Never used braid on jerkbaits so this is just my opinion.

IMO i wouldnt use braid...i would think your more to rip the bait out of the fishes mouth since theres no stretch with braid...id go with mono since it sinks it would give you the best performance that you need

Depends on the size of the jerkbait. For little jerkbaits, I use a soft action spinning rod with 10 lb. PowerPro. It has the diameter of 2 lb. mono, and allows you to launch your little jerkbait a mile! It's ridiculous! Most times I'll use about a 5 ft or 6ft leader of fluorocarbon to help hide the line from the fish. When they strike, they pretty well hook themselves, and the soft action rod will help absorb some of the shock. It's a great set up and I recommend that you don't knock it until you try it...because I knocked it when I first heard about it, and then later ate a crow after trying it! Ha ha ha!

As for bigger jerkbaits with a baitcaster, it's straight up fluorocarbon. Fluorocarbon sinks and has less give than mono, and it's the way to go! A soft action rod, like a crankbait rod, will help you land those fish better and absorb some of the shock from those bone jarring strikes!

10# FC for hardbody jerkbaits. Braid for softbody where the extra sensitivity and harder hook set are of value.
