Otter Creek/ What type of lure for streams

Otter Creek in Meade County has both trout and smallmouth bass in it. I've caught smallmouth bass in it during the summer, when the stream has dried up into pools. But I plan to go out there and do some fishing next weekend, and I imagine the current will be pretty strong. My question is, can you use spinnerbaits in high current streams (like a Rooster Tail). If you can, is there anything special that you need to do?
