    new vs old curados???

i am looking at buying a new curado or 2. i have a few of the older green ones and i love them. I have not fished with the new ones nor do i know anyone who owns one. I was wondering if anyone on here that has had both could tell me if they are a good buy or not. I am going to get them at the spring sale at BPS because you can trade in a reel and get $30 off and they still have the $50 rebate going on through shimano. So at the same price of the old curados are they worth buying? I am looking at buying a 100 series for my spinnerbait rod and a 200 series for a jig rod. thanks for the input.

    Re: new vs old curados???

If i'm not mistaken, the bass pro deal excludes shimano... This is the reason that shimano is giving away the $50 rebate on the curado so I don't think you could use the reel trade-in for a discount on a curado..

I have both the old curado and the new curado, in the 200 and the 100. If you like the older version then you will love the new version. Both are great reels but you can notice that shimano has made some very good upgrades from the old model. I have 2 of the new 100's and 1 of the new 200's and love them. I still use the old ones too because they are great reels as well

I have heard nothing but good things about the new Curado's. However, I can't tell much difference in the green Curado's and the new Citica's. They perform and feel very similar, the only quesion is are the Citica's as durable as the older curados - but they are shimano - so my guess is yes. After playing around with a friends reels I would look at the Chronarch MG's if you were going to spend that kind of money for a new Curado - they are a good deal lighter.

I have two new ones and four older style Curados. And IMHO they are worth every penny. So much smoother and much more control with lighter baits. You wont be disappointed if you get one. Brian

I like the green ones better. I have 5 of the old ones and two of the new ones. The primary reason I like the greens ones was the cost. I don't think that there was that big of a change in them, except the weight of the reel.

You are correct about them not doing the reel trade in at bass pro this year. In real fine print on the website it says that shimanno is not supporting the youth program this year in the US. I also have a couple of quantum pt tours they are on the reel trade in so you get $40 off plus a $50 mail in rebate. now thats a deal.

    Re: new vs old curados???

The Citca replaced and is more like the old Green Curado.

The Curado name was used to create a new and much more expensive reel. I have had a 100D for about 2 years. Casts far better then the original green curado; especially with small lures. The new curado's perform like a smoother version of the old Curado SF. My only dislike for the new curado's 200's is the profile and weight which is why I went with the smaller 100D.

Plapps pro was selling the new Curado at $99 this past weekend after $50 rebate. I did not get one because I already have so many toys.

The new Citicas are mecahnically the same as the old green Curados. The Citicas are even the same price $119.00 as the green Curados, and have a $30 rebate

Actually the new Citica is the same as the old "super free shimano" that sold for 149.00

    Re: new vs old curados???

if your set on getting a new curado which is a great reel, sell your old curados outright, you can get close to 100 for them if they are in half way decent shape. One thing i will caution you is first go to a tackle store that will let you put one on a rod and feel of it. The curado 200's are a little bigger then the green ones due to the larger gears which helps fight the fish and a few people i have talked to have said it feels like it turns the reel in your hand. just my two cents...

    Re: new vs old curados???

i am just looking in to getting some new reels i am not selling my old ones. I actually have bought a few used reels from ebay lately. My reason for getting the new ones is to try them out and i am going to have spare reels for summer time when i night fish mostly and then during the day i don't want to have the flourescent line on my reels so i am going to have a few extra reels to switch out on my rods. i think i am going to try a 100 and a 200 out. Thanks for the responses.
