    Reelfoot next week

I'm going to Reelfoot next weekend and I have NEVER been. I have absolutely no idea what to expect other than a lot of stumps. LOL. So, what exactly should I expect this time of year? Should I be at all concerned with the high water conditions? Any help would be appreciated....

My suggestion is to run WOT with your motor trimmed all the way down at all times. Enjoy!

If you are taking your boat be very careful of the stumps, they are everywhere. I usually go around the first of May, to catch the bluegill spawn. It's hard to beat bluegill that average between a pound and a pound and a half, and sometimes get into some two pounders. And just as Tracker said, be sure to get off the water if you see a storm comming. And also stay out of the duck blinds this time of year, I've seen more snakes down there in three days than I've seen in Ky. all of my life.

Trust me, I've heard all about the stumps and the snakes. I am so pumped about going down there and catching bigger crappie than I ever had in my life. I'm not much of a live bait fisherman, so what kind of baits should I use and what areas should I target?

We went there a few years ago in March and slayed the crappie, we just drifted live minnows out in the main lake between 10 12 ft and had a blast, we used the resorts boat, and like posted above that lake can get rough when the winds blow we had 8 to 10 ft rollers one day and liked to have never made it back in, the stumps and snakes are part of it, also there is some big catfish and bass there also but the crappie is great, most down there tightline or use spider rigs for crappie. just enjoy and be careful.

i use long poles with minnows difting around the lower lake also you can just look for the rest of the boats. they will all be ganged up this time of yeah. also in the upper lake there are some ditches that cut thru to the other parts of the lake that can do some good when the wind is blowin. the bait shops can usually tell ya what they a biting on and where to go. it is a change everyday.

I haven't been down there for several years, but it's a great lake to fish if you hit it right.
    Good luck to ya.
