Anyone have any info on the lakes right now other than muddy? How the bite: North vs South & Ky vs Barkley.
I dont know for sure but i'm planning on going to Ky in the morning and i will post on here when i get home....
Last week Ky was not as bad as barkley in terms of stain. I have heard there is quite a bit of debree floating around south barkley slowly making its way up north. This time of year - Barkley usually has a little more stain to it - and that is especially true now with all of the rains. The bite on Ky before this last cold blast was pretty good. I am sure with the forecast this week it will pick right back up where it left off in a few days.
I am getting out on North to Mid Ky lake tomorrow as well, So I let you know too. Hopefully the bite will be good and get better - BFL lbl opener is this weekend out of the dam.
barkley is @ summer pool and very muddy @ eddycreek with alot of debris floating, I know the smallmouth were biting before the snow came throught on ky lake. Tshad
Both lakes are going over summer pool today...predicted to be 1.5 ft over summer pool by Thursday. Barkley is muddy. Kentucky is stained but more than fishable. Bite yesterday was slower on Ky yesterday than before the big water rise but still had an ok day...and that was after a cold front moved thru yesterday morning. Expect better bite today and more this week as water warms. Bite has been reported both north and south on Ky so take your choice.
The bite is definitely slower than it was last week - but still not bad. I did however have catch 3 smallies on 3 casts - all about 12 inches at the most. Had 1 keeper out of 5 today and it would have barely measured. Also hooked two big shad (Gizzard I guess)- already had two showers and can still smell them!!! The highlight of the day was a bald eagle landing on a tree about 10 yards from me to check me out for a minute or so before flying off. I see them on occasion at the lake, but never that close.
Slow day today! Still managed to catch 6 LM but only 3 wouldve kept, one weight 3.9, two barely measured. i did catch a Crappie on a 1/2oz pig an jig, he went pound and a half.(he must've skipped breakfast) LOL....
I went over to Barkley to check it out, Boy is it Muddy. Both lakes are up and Barkley has alot of trash floating. Keep your Eyes open because of all the debris.I found water temps from 48-51 degrees (on Ky) Going back out in tomorrow and try it again.... Good Luck Everyone!!!!!!

It has warmed a little - but don't expect the stain to clear up. Rains and winds are expected tonight, some tomorrow and all day Sat. Good luck if you are fishing a tournament on Sat - the last I saw had predictions of 20+ mph winds (that can take the fun out of these lakes).
I've planning a trip to Barkley around the State Park. Will the muddy water on Barkley reduce any chance I have at luck for bass on Barkley significant enough for me to just find somewhere on KY Lake to go instead. I'm talking mid next week.
Dave. If i were you i would go ahead and change to Ky lake next week. we are suppose to get more rain today and tomorrow so Barkley wont clear up much. The bass have been biting pretty good on Ky, the higher water seems to have them scattered a little but at least they are catchable. I've been on Ky the last 3 days and have had a really good time. I havent caught any MONSTERS( some really big Drum though) BUt have caught a few fish Between 3-5lbs and plenty of good quality fish.
I did stumble upon a couple nice Smallies the last few days and plenty of drum. I caught all of my fish yesterday shallow but close to deep water on jigs and crankbaits.
Hope this helps some... good luck to ya
Kentucky Lake is where we are headed next week as well. We are going to be there from Wednesday through Saturday, first trip out this year I am praying the weather holds!
