Just as soon as that water gets back up around 50-55 the smallies should turn on. Really killed em this time of year last year on suspending jerkbaits and the fnf! Fnf bite dies after 52-53. There are 3 baits you cant go wrong with if your targeting spring smallies. 1. jerkbait 2. Jig 3. crankbait. Have one of those 3 tied on and you should be fine!
Going to Laurel on Tuesday. I will post what I find out. About what month to fish Laurel. I love it in March thru mid-April. If the weather stays cool, then up thru mid-May.
Sorry guys was busy yesterday evening and all day today. Forgot to post how I did on Laurel Tuesday. Got on the water around 11:00 and out of the gate had trolling motor problems. Finally got down to some fishing around 2:00pm and started hunting smallies but had no luck. Plenty of trout on a crankbait. They would not leave it alone. Got tired of this and ran to some dirty water to crank, but no luck. Said what the heck started throwing a jig and caught a keeper lm 2-0 on scale in the first 5 minutes, went the next 30-45 minutes without a bite. Went to 50 yard stretch of bank I normally dont fish, but the sun came out and was hitting this stretch for about an hour, caught 2 more nice lm keepers 2-12 and 3-4. Missed one that felt as good as what I had caught. Fish was caught between 4 and 5:30, a late bite. Fished another hour with no bites. All in all a good day for 4 1/2 hours fishing.
