Hey George, great minds think alike, lol. I grew up on the Creek, we had a camp there for 17 years, that ole lake fishes the same way it always has. Go to the dock and ask Charlie McClain what to do and see what he says. That guy has caught more bass out of Guist than all the fisherman on this site times two.

Gotta go against this one at Guist this time of year, especially with stained water--gotta go with black/chartreuse.

Trust me fellas, there will be PLENTY of baits soaked tomorrow. Plan is to throw the fly with the most Chartr that I can find early just to say I did it and hopefully to catch one but we will see. Taking 5 rods plus FNF rods, jerkbait, 2 different jigs, shaky head and crankbait. Surely we will get one taker or two tomorrow. Black and chartr crankbaits, Green Pumpkin shaky head with chartr tail, black and blue plus black and chartr jigs will probably be fished the most.

    Re: Guist Creek Thursday....

I just talked to the guy at the Marina at Guist. I now have a new goal for Thursday, ONE BITE. He said there were several boats out yesterday and NOBODY caught anything. Water is 43 and stained to EXTREMELY stained in some places. No maps available anymore of which I had one a couple of years ago but not anymore. He also said the lake had silted in a lot in the past couple of years as well. The lake was not that deep in spots to begin with when I did fish it and with more silt it will be even more shallow. Looks like John and myself will be searching for the elusive Green Carp all day long. One Bite and the day is a success, One Fish caught and we exceed all expectations more than that and I hope the Classic is fished there on Friday for we will pay our entry fee and hope for the best. I will still throw the fly early in HOPES of a pulldown. See ya

Prognosis doesn't sound good, which is why I asked about the chair with straps; so I don't fall out when I fall asleep. We will have a good time anyway. cya

My singing and pleading for the "Fatties and Baby Cubs" to start biting will more than keep you awake. Tough to go to sleep with a pounding headache and earache. You may jump out and swim back to the ramp after the first chorus or two. Clebo was hating life a couple of saturdays ago when the bite shut down for me at 11am and we fished to dark. He caught up and tied me in the afternoon but I could not get a sniff from anything. Sang Zona's version and my own version of the "Baby Cub" song and was begging for "Fatties" the last 3 hours on the water.

Looks like John T and myself on for Guist for Thursday morning. Have not fished the lake in about 3 years and he has not fished it very much either so it will be out version of "A Day on the Lake". Taking both FNF rods and letting John try it out as well, just may snag one on the drop and if it is one of those Big Hybrids we will just hang on and chase with the trolling motor. Targeting Green Carp and surely we will catch at least one apiece to put in before daylight and no leaving until the one per person quota is met. We may still be there on Friday so somebody may have to bring us breakfast and Lunch Friday if needed. Full report when we get off the water, looking forward to meeting you John at the ramp.

Hey Elwood, do you have one of those chairs in the back of your boat I can strap into to fight them monsters? I think I might need it

Back seat is securely mounted to the pedestal and even have some tie down straps that I use when I am trolling 5 rods for stripers that I have rigged up. Can use these straps if needed but I have yet to come across one of those Green Carps that fight anywhere near enough for the extra support. If we were at Dale and I knew you would be in a tussy with one of those 5+ Brownfish then we would defineately have to add extra tie downs to the chairs and maybe need to add one of those Salt water fighting seats that swivel and everything. With neither of us knowing Guist very well, low to mid 40 degree stained water conditions, we will be lucky to catch 5 fish all day long. Any more than that and we would have won the Guist Creek Bassmaster Classic if there was one that day. Looking forward to it. I will be throwing the fly a bit to see what happens and will bring my second rod to let you join in the fun when they start hitting it. I figure a nice fly suspended just above the cover will tempt any of them to hit. Hoping for lightly stained water and not chocolate milk. They will hit it in the Wolfe River in stained water so they may hit it in Guist. Probably the only FNF jig these fish have ever seen so it will be an adventure.

    What a day!

I'll let Elnut (AKA - FNF King) fill you in on his luck from the front of the boat. I zeroed in the back. Not even a sniff. Sorry to disappoint those of you hoping for a good report. Felt like we were fishing in a mud hole; jig almost layed on top of the water it was so thick.

To top it off, Elwood just called me from the road home to share his story at the Flying 'J'. He needs to tell it. All I'm going to say is it involves Elwood, a State Trooper, a couple of women, a sixty five year old man and somebody gets knocked out.

Thanks for a colorfull day Woody!
