I still have yet to hear Obama make any racist remarks[/B]. (that period was supposed to be in bold). I have never, and none of you have have ever heard a negaitve racial comment spoken from Obama - Why, because he is not racist. Now if Obama starts making comments that are racist - then I will be here agreeing with you guys. I agree - this preacher is out there, a little radical, and I definintely would not be a part of his church. I think calling Obama a racist because his preacher has made some crazy comments is insane.
Do you think "Crackers" is a racial term Col?
Bull Connor was a member of the kkk,who else was he referring too?Can whites call Obamas preacher and congregation racial slurs or is it a double standard?
" HANNITY: Karl, that's another point. And the church gave a lifetime achievement award to Farrakhan here too. I spent some time this weekend going over the book "Dreams of My Father." On page 229, these are Barack Obama's words, "there were no cigar chomping crackers like Bull Connor out there." Those are his words. The church has deleted the black value system from the website. But going back to the same book, page 284, he called the black value system "a sensible heart-felt list." "

Are you really on here defending the integrity of KKK members on here?? I would call him worse than that. You have to get better than that to get my attention. Am I supposed to feel sorry that an outspoken member of the KKK got called a name??? Especially when he is guilty of being a "cracker." The word cracker, as an ethnic term used by african american and decendents of slaves, refers to the slave labor drivers that used whips (whip cracker) to enforce labor. Throughout literature in the last 150 years it is used as a term for anyone that still held onto the hate of african american and slave descendants. Now if he referred to all whites as "crackers" that would be racist. But referring to a member of the KKK as this is historically and literally correct. That is your free american literature lesson of the day.Bull Connor was a member of the kkk,who else was he referring too?Can whites call Obamas preacher and congregation racial slurs or is it a double standard?

I am not defending the integrity of racist kkk members no more than i'm defending the racist followers of Wright. You are the one defending racist views not me.Are you really on here defending the integrity of KKK members on here?? If its ok to call white racists "crackers",what do we call black racists?
Racial stereotypes serve blacks no better than they serve whites, would you please quit making excuses for Obama belonging to a racist organization for almost two decades and using racial slurs and stereotypes like "Typical white person".
Ok, you convinced me - I am not voting for Obama!!!!LOL
You still haven't brought anything to my attention that shows Obama as being a racist. Sure, his preacher is nuts, but not Obama.
I am not making excuses for anyone. That is the republicans job when it comes to Bush!
Just curious if any of you have heard the entire sermons from which these "snippets" were taken? I agree from the little I hear it sounds shocking, but I was wondering if the entire sermons have been heard, and how these short clips came from the context of the entire sermon. Once again, i am not defending Rev. Wright, but I would like to have all of the facts before I pass judgement.
JCB, This is my last response in this thread, I'll be away from the board for a while. After the holiday I'll be in Honduras for a week, so with a few parting shots I agree to disagree for now.
Terms like 'systemic barrier' annoy the daylights out of me. Nice and vague, bet it's hard to come up with concrete examples. Don's example sounds more like the kind of barrier you find these days.
The whites in Mr. Wright's church are probably in there to apologize for being white. Maybe instead of an offering, they get charged a reparation fee. Too bad it's way up there in Chicago, or I'd stop by and bask in the love.

Really? Tell me more about this church I know intimately and you know nothing about. My source is an uncle who goes there and told me of a black couple being told, after the service, that there was a church "that would be more to their liking" in a different part of town. Don't try to split hairs. Try to remember that.

First it's churches across MS (downright systemic), now it's only one you know about. Instead of cross burning thugs, somebody made a nasty comment to a black couple, so now black people aren't allowed to attend this church. Right. Good example. Horrifying. Think the whites ever hear any nasty comments in Mr. Wright's church? Funny how you make this church in MS big and bad, but Mr Wright's is just some obscure little church with a small following.
Don't tell me not to split hairs, then split hairs yourself, it makes it too easy for me. Try hard to remember that.
Maybe when you get a chance you could tell me exactly how we address the prevalent white racism problem you say exists in America. We already have anti discrimination laws out the wazoo, what's the next step? Make it law that people have to like each other? Force people to attend systemic barrier training? Revoke the citizenship of every white person living south of the Mason/Dixon line? Make saying the N word a felony unless you're black? Elect Obama?
BTW, I got shut out on Barren yesterday afternoon, and y'all all sound like "typical white people" to me.
Denying there is a problem will never solve anything. The first step to a solution to this is to admit there is a problem. I live here in Western Ky, and I would be foolish to say that racism is not prevelant here. I hear the "n" word on a regular basis, rebel flags fly from every 5th house. We are only seeing what we choose to see, and take it for what we choose to take it for. If we choose to convince ourselves that racial discriminatin is a thing of the past, then we don't see it's prevelance. On the other hand, if you are a minority that has been discriminated against in the past, these things will start to pop out at you - so you will obviously be more aware of what is happening - even though you may often mis-interpret something as being discriminatory. However, that doesn't mean everything is a mis-interpretation, because people are still discriminated against because of race.
