Hi, I use Power Pro 50# line with a fluorocarbon or 12-18" wire leader, I sometimes use lighter gear (bass) casting gear for esox. the average muskie caught is about 14-16 lbs. its much more fun on lighter gear. I have caught a 37" fish on ultralight gear when it hit a bluegill. I always tie a palomar knot. another thing I do is put a small round plastic bead on the line to prevent the leader from hitting the first guide and causing damage.good luck.
