Re: Need help on a place to vacation?

There's a place at Dale Hollow called Cove Creek that has camp sites, a free launch ramp, a swim area, restrooms, and plenty of bank to fish. I can't personally vouch for the bank fishing, but I do know of some big (7-10lb) channel catfish caught around there in a boat. I would think catfishing from the bank would be decent at least at night. It's in Tennessee and I believe you need to reserve your site through the Army Corp or somewhere. The drive down and up the hill is a bit of a trick. The road is narrow and if you meet an oncoming vehicle, one of you will need to back up to a pullover and let the other pass. I been down there 8 or 10 times and have never had to do that yet, but be alert going up and down that road.

Look at the second page at this site to see what amenities are offered at each site.

Also, down there left side of the screen at this site, you can click on camping and see how to reserve a site.

Go to that big lake by severville/pigeon forge. Best of both worlds. Gas will be high by then.

Bailey's Point campground at Barren River Lake would be a good place. It is right on the water plus you can bank fish there. The tailwaters are also a close drive and some nice fish can be caught at the tailwaters. BRL is a good fishery and if you all can get on some hybrids you'll have a blast!! If anybody wants something other than the outdoors Bowling Green is less than hour away or you can be at Mammoth cave in about an hour the other way.

If the COE has Lake Cumberland at the level they want in June / July the Cumb. River will be low and it's a great place to wade fish with the chance of catching some pretty big trout. Kendall is a great campground and you also have the option of making short drives to wade at Helms Landing, the rockhouse, or Winfrey's Ferry. Of course you can also drive right above the dam and bank fish in the lake. Good luck.

As other posters have stated Baileys Point On Barren is a first rate camp. Well run, nice people, good ramp, nice facilities and so on, you won't be disappointed.

If you plan on wading ,be sure to wear waders..water temperature is cold..50 plus degrees. Don't how old your kids are but they should be supervise at all times..water can rise very quickly. Horn will sound to advise fisherman to watch out, adhere to this warning.

Bailey's Point is one of my favorite places to camp. Great campground, great people, and a great lake. That entire point is great fishing.

Hillman Ferry campground on the LBL side of Kentucky Lake is outstanding as well. There is great fishing all around there, and a ton of outdoor activities in the land between the lakes area.

If you pick the right weekend they have drag boat races in the same bay (Pisgah) as Hilman ferry they race one weekend in June,July,Aug I think. Kids might like this if they are the right age.

Cave Run has a great campground (Zilpo I think) right on the water with a ramp. I can't vouch for the bank fishing though.

Not too sure how far you want to drive? I have had some great time fishing Shenandoah River in Virginia. Great place to camp, fish, canoe, etc. Catching fish that time of year can be easy. Have had several trips where 80+ per boat per day is common... Look at www.downriver.com for canoe rental info. There is a nice campground right across the river from the canoe company. It takes a solid 7-8 hours to get to Bentonville, VA from Lexington, KY.
