Angry Fishign According to the Weatherman

The best friend I have ever had was a Helicopter Pilot in Viet Nam (before I knew him). All aviators, especially Helicopter Pilots, rely heavily on accurate weather reports. My friend (now deceased) used to say frequently that the "weatherman only opens his mouth for two things--to eat and to tell a lie!!"

Today made me think of my friend's discription of weathermen. I had thought about going fishing today but last evening, all of the weather reports I saw (TV and Internet Weather Channel, two TV weathermen, and two newspapers), said that it would be cloudy, windy and rain today, so I decided I would do something else instead. TODAY HAS BEEN A BEAUTIFUL RAIN FREE DAY!!

try looking at http://www.crh.noaa.gov/lmk/ best place to view forecasts IMO.

Obviously this isn't the first time i have heard these comments about meteorologists. My father is a retired meteorologist with the National Weather service, and I often asked for his opinion about the difficulties in predicting the weather. I won't try and repeat them, but if you ever have the opportunity to ask a meteorologists about this issue, you may be enlightened about the challenges of predicting such a complex system. Not taking this personally, cause if i did I would have lived my life angry =]

sparrow75, I am glad you don't take it personally. The NOAA site is worse than most weathermen--it gives you mountains of extranious bovine feces but never tells you anytrhing that is usable.

I have my own idea about the current forcasting of the weather. The weatherman predicts rain at the slightest chance of rain or whatever. chances are he or she is wrong and knows it but when it doesn't rain you feel happier. we had a weatherman come to a fishing meeting a long time ago and he told us how to watch the weather map on tv and how to tell for oursleves what to expect. I ride a Harley and never plan a ride around the tv or internet forcast unless they can show me the tornado or hurricane on the live broadcast. and there better be one of them standing out in the storm...lol
