I just keep an eye on any freying, and heck if there's still alot on the spool I will put it on another spool where the back is the front and it's like new.. just to $$$ to throw away. the kids poles are an option to.

How long is Braided Line good once you have put it on a reel and used it for awhile? Thanks Ryan.

My origanal spider wire is 9 yrs old, turned it end for end about three yrs ago, its still as strong as it needs to be.Stealth lasts about 4 yrs, fireline about two at best. Lighter braids like 10/2 about one good year, then switch end to end and another good year. I usually use a flouro leader almost as long as the rod. For the money, its cheaper than mono, in my humble opinion.
Hey Larry, would like to know what kind of knot u use to tie braid line to flourocarbon? thanks
I am right in there with you LarryG I like the brade and flouro leader best in most applactions.
I'm not trying to speak for Larry, but me, i use a barrel swivel, palomar knot on both sides. You just have to remember to tie the leader to the swivel before the main line. I also fill about 1/3 of the spool with the cheapest 4# or 6# mono I can find, then attach the braid with a uni-to-uni knot, and spool on the rest. There's still way more braid on there than I'm ever going to cast out, and it saves $$.
Barrel swivel, that is what i wasn't sure about, didn't know if it was a special knot or a swivel. thank you very much.
I dont use a swivel, it will affect the way some crank baits work. I use two uni knots to join the lines. Also, if you get a serious back lash, some of us do, with braid, just clear up as much as you can, and cut, then use the uni knots, braid knots do weaken the line as much as other materials. Another thing, no or hardly any memory.
One thing I forgot, NEVER TRY TO PULL A SNAGGED LINEWITH OUT A GLOVE,
