If it was me that you had helped, tourney or not, your efforts would have been applauded. As long as you felt helping him was the right thing to do, then you did the right thing.
This type of angler attitude, and the fact that I'm not great fisherman, is why I have only fished one tourney over 15 boats in my life. That one was enough for me, due to a similar situation.
A big thumbs up to you GeoBass. If I'm ever in this situation, I only hope that someone like you comes along!
Maybe I differ a little but did you help them out because you wanted something? I dont think you did. Would you do it again knowing the same outcome would happen? Probably so.
You will sleep better at night knowing you did the right thing. Genuine kindness expects no return.

Hey guys,
I don't chime in much but thought I would on this one. First and for most you should not do it if you are expecting anything from the person. In this I mean money, a thank you or anything. Remember no good deed goes unrewarded. Now with that said I have pulled people in and I have been pulled in. In both cases money was offered and in both cases money was rejected. I was on Cumberland in March a few years back with my wife when my motor stopped up in Otter Creek and my truck was at State Park Ramp. It was a Sunday evening and not a boat to be seen. Luckily this nice couple in a Buckeye Bass Boat pulled me in about 10 minutes before my trolling battery died. Last year at Herrington I pulled a boat in that was fishing a tourney that I was and they won some money. They offered me half the cut for doing it. I said no thanks. Just help out some one else who needs it. If you ever pull me in I will offer money and a thank you. If I ever pull you in I expect nothing of you or I would not do it. I do it because it's the right thing to do.

Guys I don't think he meant he thought he was owed anything. I read his post, and it seems that he felt somewhat disappointed that society is at a point in time where acts of kindness aren't noticed anymore. On that note I totally agree with him. I'm old school and if you help me out as I always try to help others I'll offer you money and thank you until you get tired of hearing it. That is the way it's suppose to be or at least that's how I was raised. I don't mean to speak for Geo but that is how I took his post.
I applaud you for helping your fellow man. If God is in your heart then your reward will be stored in heaven.
