I don't believe in leaving someone stranded on the water. If I can help, I will, or at least offer. Certainly if they were an arse about it, I might reconsider helping that person again. Don't think I would be worried about whether I got a public thank you, medal, or anything else. Do the right thing and don't worry about it.
