Is there much of a topwater bite going on yet?
I have only been hit once on topwater so far. Then again, I have only been tossing them occassionally.
You know, I've read about some of the smaller "pockets" off the main lake being good around this time of the year and around the spawn. Do a lot fish spawn in these smaller pockets right off the main lake or is it better to look in the backs of the bigger bays like sledd and bear and the bays in them like malcom? Maybe it's better to target these pockets a little earlier as the fish are moving up becaue they are closer to deep water, what do you think? Tonight is my last night of work and then I'm off to KY! I can feel it now, it's getting close.
from my experience in the spring there, i tend to do great in the bigger bays. i have been going there about this same time for years now. the topwater bite will be there strong anytime. my buddy is there now and has had a few on a buzzbait, but nothing consistent yet. last year we caught 90% of our fish for the week on a buzzbait. then again, i love topwater also. go as far back in the creeks and bays u can. if there is 6 inches of water, through a buzz through it. this all depends if the fish have moved up yet.
From my experience here - which is not that vast, when it starts heating up on the North end - it is already full blown hot down south. I know last year about this time, I was catching a few up on the beds on the north end of Ky and barkley. But on the south end, it was full blown sight fishin time, and it was fun. North or South - this is definitely a good time to be on the lakes. People are still catching them everywhere.
We caught several lil fish yesterday morning on topwaters. We fished them really early and that bite lasted about an hour. Then caught a couple of fish on into the day when it was really cloudy and windy... With the water temps really jumping up look for the bite to get better
