Back in 1978/1979 we went to 1/2 gallon pricing on Gasoline because the pumps wouldn't go over 99.9/Gal ? I think the Oil companis will soon be charging by the litre (a little more than a qt) as is done in Canada so we won't notice the increases for a while

Yep, my fishing has changed some over the last year or so. I still hit Cumberland, but not as much as usual. More along the lines of going when things are looking good and only hitting it for specific parts of the season. Doing more creek fishing close to home. $10 in gas and I get two trips to the creek and one way to work. That would not get me far to Cumberland!

We've needed VIABLE alternative fuel sources for years. May be this time we'll get serious about it. Anyone remember Carter on TV back in the late 70's saying we needed to lessen the amount of oil/gas we used and work on alternative fuel sources? To bad we did not listen very well then....

Yes it has hurt a great deal as we all seem to share, but IMO the war is using a lot of fuel and that is driving up demand, those tanks, planes, and hummers do not run off water or air. One thing though is it not strange that when the Pres and Vp made their money in the oil bussiness that we are in this jam. When the war is over maybe gas will drop. IMO

Wow...everyone sure does have something to say don't they?!! To answer your question MHALL...Heck yeah it's affected the fishing trips I take...Here I am making more money than I've ever made in my life, our work load here is booming, etc...but I'm feeling squeezed on money anyway. I can only blame it on the cost of fuel because that's what's driving the high price of everything else.

Like someone else stated, my favorites are Cumberland River, Dale and Big C (in order)....but I'm not sure I'll be able to go as much (which is probably good news for those who live near those bodies of water and like to fish).

The farm pond I go to is about 28 miles from my house...I usually don't keep any fish when I go there, (mainly because I'm to lazy to clean them), but now I'm thinking I might keep some just to help offset the price of fuel to get me there and back.

    Re: Gas.........

I have gone to Florida 5 times since Christmas to fish in the Gulf and I am spending over $1,200.00 - $1,300 in fuel alone on a 3-4 day trip where as before I was around $800.00. My truck holds $150.00 per fill up now and the boat will take a whopping $245.00 so it does not take long to spend a grand on fuel only in 3 days. I love fishing in the gulf but it does not come cheap any more all expenses paid it is over $2000.00 for a long weekend any more.
In short the gas prices have not slowed me down fishing locally but I have to think twice before I jump in the truck to head South.
P.S. Don't tell my wife how much I spent on the last few trips.

I find myself pulling the boat closer to where i want to fish and not running all over the lake. 15 MPG in the truck beats 4 MPG in the boat.

Cant sell them corn or wheat because congress mandated a large chunk of corn and grains to be set aside for bio fuel (ethanol) production. Read somewhere that because of that and last years drought, we will be lucky to have those commodities available for food in coming years. As a result the price of those commodities (even rice) has increased 300 percent. Supply and demand !

Gas prices and food prices have changed everything. I am more careful on my choices at the store and when I fish. I drive slower on the road and water to help and I think it does. Gonna start walking the creeks again...

    BP

    Market Cap (intraday)5: 229.56B

    Profitability
    Profit Margin (ttm): 7.33%
    Operating Margin (ttm): 9.48%

    Management Effectiveness
    Return on Assets (ttm): 7.43%
    Return on Equity (ttm): 23.38%

When you have ~1/3 Trillion dollar company, you better be making billions. The news always just reports the total record breaking profits, which is not the total picture. Reporting that BP made 7.43% return on assets, just doesn't have the same effect.

If I told you I made $100,000 last year, you really shouldn't have any idea whether I did good or bad, without knowing how much I have tied up in the business. If I had the same profit margin BP did, I would have to have $1.345 Million tied up in the business, to make that $100,000. Go try to get a $1.345 mil loan at the bank and show them your business plan that you can make $100,000 per year, and see what they say.

    Re: Gas.........

yes they need to do something about the gas prices and / or lower the legal age for children to work...( I have 4, maybe they can get a job and offset the hole in my pockets.)

But Honestly I dont think gas would be as bad as it is if wasnt an ELECTION YEAR.....

Also, alot of people forget that the worth of a US Dollar is very low right now and in turn Hurts everything.
