    Question?? Going this afternoon...

Alright I just got back from KY Lake and Barkley and had a great week of fishing.. So my buddy is taking me out to his 12 acre farm pond that is full of fish... My question is do you think the bass in farm ponds have spawned out yet or in pre-spawn patterns... I've fished this pond before and the fish usually hit spinnerbaits & lizards this time of year... I'm just looking for some advice.. Hopefully the water temp is in the 70's and the buzzbait bit is on... Thanks in advance...

I smoked'em in a couple of ponds last evening. Some fish still on the beds others are done. They were hitting brushhogs moving. They did not want it slow they wanted it swimming fairly fast. After that go with topwater, I caught some nice fish last night on a Torpedo, they wouldn't hit the buzzbait. Take your plastics and topwaters and you'll be just fine.

Thank you sir for the quick response, so you think that some are still on the beds and some have spawned out... I'll be throwing the creature baits with the mile high blue sky , then onto the topwater... So you think that a quick retrieve will work with the plastics if they're still on the beds?

All bodies of water big and small are different so you never know exactly. Experimentation will be the key. I started last night throwing the plastics and working them with the traditional hop, drag, sink style and could not get bit. Then I started making long casts close to the banks and swimming it in fast and they were coming from five feet plus away to grab it, and was very aggressive about it. Some of them were males and others females, I got the impression they were guarding layed eggs because the females looked like they had dropped their load. Later when that slowed I went with a bluegill colored Torpedo as bass hate gills during spawn time and after they lay they try to kill every gill they see. I had 15 last evening with 12 being keeper sized fish and some of them with shoulders.
