How much do you tip a guide?

This is good to know stuff, cause about 3 months ago (when I was still working my dad, brother-in-law, cousin and I went on a guided striper trip and stuggled with this same issue. The guide had given us a "military discount" off the normal $300/day trip and made in $250. We debated it, dad IS CHEAP, and decided that we should tip the guy 20%, and thus it basically cost us the same as a normal trip would have anyway. Glad to know he was not insulted by that amount, after reading the "guides point of view". Thanks for the info.

It's VERY common to tip fishing guides. My family and I have chartered salt water fishing trips many times in the past and we always leave a tip. I've considered hiring a redear guide here on Barkley and I would most likely tip that guide if he was a decent guide.

I tip barbers, the bag boy at the grocery when he helps me to the truck, the mailman at Christmas, and the list goes on. A person who doesn't tip is often talked about in a negative light.

That said, waitresses who don't keep my drink filled, normally get a small tip.
