    Weights???

Some of you may already know but I recently got back into fishing after a five year "Break"...

What benefits does tungsten weights have over the old Lead Based weights?

When to use? or when not to use? etc.

any imput on this would be appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Kevin

    Re: Weights???

I always use them. They are more dense (smaller in size for the same weight) and much harder. You can really feel the bottom much better than you can with lead. I put off using tungsten for a while, but I finally broke down and bought some, and it has made a huge difference. When you pair tungsten sinkers with some flouro (it is more sensitive) you have almost tripled your sensitivity from the mono and lead combo. I would suggest buying just a few of the size weights you use the most (in my case the 1/4 oz. bullet) in tungsten and trying it out. It does hurt when you lose one, but the benefits far outweigh the price. This is in addition to the environmental aspect of not using lead based products. Kevin

I'm with Kevin on this one. Man you just can't beat how sensitive Tungsten/Flouro combo is. The only time i use lead weights is when i'm t-rigging plastics around rip-rap(I always lose a few).
I use a tungstenweight for flipping and for fishing deep water, you just cant beat the feel. If you buy a pack every week during the winter you dont seem to notice the big hit as badly

Ditto, Ditto, Ditto to all of the above. Flourocarbon and Tungsten is hard to beat.
