I stopped off at the river on my way home from work this afternoon. Thought the rain had quit, and didn't have a rain jacket in the car or a bucket for fish... just went down to see if i could get a bite. Well, in about 15 minutes, I caught 4 sauger and two good showers. I gave the fish to some other guys down there, went home, dried off, and came back with a rain jacket and a bucket. It took about 2 hours, but I caught my limit of sauger, a big bull bluegill, and a 11" crappie that was full of eggs. I lost another, bigger crappie at the bank (thought it was a white bass and horsed it a little...duh). All fish were caught from the bank using white or chart. grubs and a chartruese jig head.
The river is sometimes generous, often stingy, and always a surprise.
