    Beaver Lake 5/01/2008

Fished Beaver yesterday. No thermometer, so I'm not sure how warm the water was but there was at least 4 foot visibility. The wind was horriblle, and it was hard to position the boat. Didn't see any bedding bass, but then again, the grass is so thick--especially in the shallows--that you probably couldn't see any beds that are there anyway. But, the dock owner said the bass were on the bed and I believe him as we only had 2 strikes in the 5 hours or so we fished. I boated both fish and both were litttle bucks--one 10" and another 12". I haven't been to Beaver in about 12 years and couldn't belive how much grass is in there. I plan to go back when the bass are done spawning and fish the edges of the grass with a spinnerbait or rat-L-trap. (I caught one fish on a spinnerbait and one on a rat-L-trap yesterday).Or, I'll try fishing with a swim frog and letting it drop into any holes.
Any other ideas on how to tackle post spawn bass at Beaver?
    Thanks and God Bless,
    John

I was hoping you'd do better than that. That grass can be discouraging. I think you could've done alot better without the wind. Last weekend I caught about 25 during a 6 hour tournament with no keepers. Fish were tight to the bank on back side of grass line. Flukes, Frogs, Bitsy-jig. Today will be different attack plan. I plan on fishing deeper and slower to hopefully find that BIG MAMA.
Tournament from 8am-2pm. Come on down and give it a shot.

    Stratos,
i assume you're tlking about fishing the holes between the bank and the grass? lol I didn't think of that. I didn't really look for space between the bank and grass. Should I look for holes, or just fish against the bank on top of the grass mats? I don't have my own boat right now. So, I can't really fish the tournaments. Had to rent a boat that day. But thanks for the invitation! I tried fishing a little deeper off the edges with a rat-L-trap but didn't get any bites that way. Maybe I should have tried slow rolling a big spinnerbait? Good Luck in the tourney! Hope ya find Big Mama, but either way, let me know how you do.
    Thanks,
    John

Well.........Today was AWESOME. Caught fish on Buzz bait and Fluke. With the rain, water was running in at the pipe right at the ramp. I caught 4 right there and then 6 at the ramp within the first 15 minutes of the tourney. I threw the fluke 99% of the day and it finally paid off with a 18 inch-2.64 pound bass. I caught it in less than 2 feet of water between the bank and the first edge of grass. I caught atleast 40 fish today and it was a blast to crank in everyone of them. It was rough with the wind and so many fish my thumb got all tore up from lipping them. Mr. Flatpickinbasser if you want to fish with me.. the next tournament is May 17, from 8am-2pm. Next weekend is Mothersday and My wife would hang me if I try to go fishing next weekend. With the rain and run-off coming into theLake, the water temp was 64.7 at the dock at 2pm.
I also caught a lot of the fish in the holes of the grass. Twitch up to it, let it fall and hang on. If they didn't hit it on the fall they would bust it when the fluke was being pulled out.
Good Luck to all who go!!!!!!
