    Sympson Lake

Hows the fishing, I been by to check it out, looks like a nice little lake. I have heard many stories of lots of big bass in this lake. Also, how do I obtain a permit? I have searched all over, but no luck. Thanks in advance.

you have to go to city hall for your permit, cost is based on motor size. I have a 115 and it cost over 100 last year.Pretty tough lake to fish but has a good population of big bass in it but you will catch them few and far between. Best fish out of there for me is about 7# and most of the time you won't get good numbers either. Tons of catfish thought. No rain means no fishing cause you can't get anything other than a small jonboat in it because it's so shallow at the ramp. I'm not buying a pemit this year because only got to fish there 3 or 4 times last year because of the drought, I'd rather spend that 100 on gas and go to Rough or T-ville, but it's close and right now with gas so high it may not be a bad option for some.

but if your over 65 yrs old the permit is free, it's $30 for a 16 ft alum boat with trolling motor ( my other boat) If you live in Nelson co, it's 5 or 10 , the 30 is for out of county,

Out of county permit is pricey. I won't buy another one because I could not get my boat in there buy June. The other bad thing is that they allow anything on the lake. It is not a fishing lake. You can water ski, tube or whatever and its a very small lake. Lots of fun while your trying to fish. This lake is used for water in Nelson county so they **** it down every year pretty good. Also no parking. Good place to float a canoe when there is not water in it though.
