plenty of people take boats like yours on the river. As long as you know your boat real well and understand how it will react to the current, swells, wind, and waves you'll be fine. The current up near the lower dam can be squirly, don't let it pull you into the white water!! You need your motor to be rock solid dependable so if you get into trouble it will start right up. Take your safety equipment/ wear your life jacket and go catch some fish.
One other thing: where you are planning on crossing the river can be one of the most difficult parts. The current from the upper and lower dams come together right there and it can be exciting in the current break. Sometimes it helps to let the river take you down stream a little bit as you cross, then back track up in the calmer water. No need in fighting it. Be carefull.
