    New to Fishing in Kentucky

I'm originally from Iowa and last summer the Army moved me to Louisville. I didn't have time to get any fishing in but I am really looking forward to getting out this year.

I have a 22' Xpress Jon boat. I mainly chase catfish and would like some information on the Ohio River as to where to go and things to look out for.

Two weeks ago I went down to taylorsville and checked it out any tips or tricks for that place.

Any other places I should try and get to?

There are several places to launch a boat in the Louisville and southern Indiana area. In Louisville you have Cox's Park and The Greenwood Road Ramp..In southern Indiana you have Duffys Landing in Jeffersonville, Clarksville and New Albany Boat ramps. There are several good creeks in the upper pool that you could get a 22' boat in. Most of the catfish action seems to come from below the falls of the Ohio River. It can be tricky getting a boat in there if the water is low. I fish mostly for bass in the Ohio River and at Taylorsville and there are plenty of catfish guys on here that will help you out..

Use a Blue & Black jig-n-pig for the bass on Taylorsville and also try soaking chicken strips in Watermelon Kool-Aid overnight. Go into the coves and fish around 4 to 6 foot deep around 10:30 pm. The cats should be moving up shallow to feed and they really like the Kool-Aid soaked chicken strips.....

When it comes to catfish, look no further than the Ohio. It's plum full of them and right in our back yard...thank god because I heard gas went up again. This area of the 981 mile river is probably one of the best do to the only falls on the river, which isn't that big of a drop but has been a natural stopping ground for many species of fish that swim the river. It is also one of the largest sedimentary rock formations in the world, which brings me to boating in this area....IT is dangerous and wouldn't suggest going out unless you are with someone that knows the area. I'm down there every week and would be glad to show you around and help any way I can. Feel free to PM me and we can hook up...Welcome...Chuck
