    Question Cave Run Lake

I'm thinking about fishing Cave Run around the first of June. I haven't fished there in 25 years. Just wondering how the bite is on bass right now and what you think I can exepect at the first of June. I assume the bass will be off the beds and starting to move along creek channels to their summertime haunts. From what i can find on KDFWR's fishing forecast most of the largemouth are found in the upper lake. I'm assuming that is the opposite end from the dam and more towards the river? Also says to fish the milfoil beds and fallen trees or rocks on the North Fork area during spring. What are some good baits to tackle the grass? Should I fish along the edges shallow, or go deeper by using Rat-L-traps and big 10' worms or slow rolled spinnerbaits? Forecast does say that most largemouth found in the lower lake will be in embayments. I guess I'll mainly fish the upper lake as per the fishing forecast--unless you guys say otherwise.

Sorry I can't help you much, I've only fished the Cave one time in my life. It was about June or July I believe. The Bass were real sluggish and the locals said they were being stubborn and not biting very good. The ones I did catch came on a Blue and Chrome Rat-L-Trap, also a big musky hit the Trap. Also used a Blue & Black Jig and had some top water action as the sun came up until around 9:00 am on a Pop-r.

    Good luck to you.....

Last week we caught a few bass on Zilpo flats(on Main Lake) with Rattletraps. Should be improving.

I always heard that red shad color worked well, I've fished it several times but never done that great. The musky will drive you nuts, I lost several worm rigs because of them. I would fish up in the river as far as you feel comfortable or put in @ Bangor or Poppin rock and troll around there will be plenty of stick ups.

I need to rent a fishing boat for the day. What marina or dock--with jon boat rental-- will put me closest to or furthest up the river?
    Thanks,
    John

Scott's Creek is the only one that I know of. I think there is a marina in Bath Co but I know it's small and I'm not sure of the rentals, might want to check on that cause that would put you closer to where you are talking about. I do know Scott's Creek has them though. Morehead is my home town and the lake is beautiful. Haven't fished for bass but muskie are plentiful.

Scott's Creek is going to be the down by the **** though so it would take a LONG time to get to where you are talking about in a jon boat.

Good luck and let us know how you did.
