Stoner Creek Prop Monster

Well Stoner Creek chewed up my prop on my small outboard..... dang rocks. Can I file down the edges? Will it hurt the prop more than do it any good? Never had Aluminum props so I'm not sure if I should send it off or try myself. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I had a boat guy tell me that running a prop slightly out of balance would wear out lower unit seals.

I chewed mine up a tad on the North Fork of Elkhorn...I swear that rockpile wasn't there the last time (LOL)...

It has some rash on the edges, I filed it down...when I turn it and compare it to a stationary spot it doesn't appear bent or out of whack, so I've just let it fly. I haven't been able to tell any difference in performance since, small water or on the big water.

I guess it just depends on how bad it's chewed...

Yeah, the bad thing is that I knew there was a rock pile to watch out for, but I misjudged it...thought it was farther upstream than it was...I had just made the comment to my buddy "Now, we need to watch out for a ro..." DOH!!!

Found it.

Luckily, I wasn't running very fast and immediately killed the throttle.

Just buy a new one, I wouldn't think they would be that expensive for a small outboard. Then you can work on your old prop and keep it as a spare if your able to file out the bad places.
By the way what part of the creek were you on?

With a small o/b I would buy a new prop with the same rake, pitch and angle. You can make a half-mold of the new one in a half bucket of concrete by spraying it with pam and pusshinit half way in. That way you have a guide for future minor repairs

I think I'll check into a new one and try to smooth the old one. It will be good to have a spare. Thanks for all the help .

I've had good luck with A1 Prop. I would just get a new one.
