Wal-Mart only gives us what we want. No one is forced to shop there, but we do because we'd rather save 7 cents on a box of laundry detergent than care about where a product is made.
I feel the same way when people complain about our politicians. "We The People" only get what we want and deserve.
I too believe that Big Box retailers in all aspects of our society have changed America now and forever. I would like to say that I only shop and buy "American" but can't and most likely never will. With all the Big Box retailers buying power, Wal-Mart / Bass Pro Shops etc., their prices are so much cheaper across the board that it is about the only way a "Family" can survive these days. Throw in gas at $4 per gallon and it only adds to the crunch and make even more people go to the "Big Boxes" for our supplies. These retailers continue to drive the "Ma and Pa" stores out of business and will continue to do so until they are all that is left. I read a scenario on that topic and a suggestion was for example "Wal Mart or BPS" after so many years of their dominance and buying power puts all, "99% of their competition, out of business. Then they get GREEDY and raise their prices to start making even more dollars in profit to satisfy their thirst. We will have no choice to pay for there will not be any other options. At that time we will have wished that we could have done something to keep more "Ma and Pa's" in business. First to admit that if my money can be spent to keep the local economy then that is what is done, BUT push come to shove and if it involves saving some of that same money in order to survive, then Big Box I go. When the government let Exxon and Mobil merge a few years ago, that was a HUGE mistake for you now had the 2 leading Gas companies in the world in partnership. There are laws in place that are supposed to eliminate such mergers to keep "Competition" and "Competitors" so we the consumer have choices and also so price gouging and such things don't take place. How many "Oil Companies" are there? All I hear about is Exxon/Mobil (theres a merger that the government never should have allowed) and a couple more. I think the few leaders of these oil companies call each other in the morning and depending on their mood for the day is what we get. 10 year supply of crude in holding tanks NOW and we are all getting stuck with $4 gas. I hear of Trucking companies, big and small, calling for a 1 day boycott of purchasing diesel. That will NEVER work for they will all fill up the day before and the day after. What would work would be for a 1 day boycott of them MOVING THEIR TRUCKS would be better. Not only would the diesel fuel pipeline back up for none being consumed but all the material they are moving would come to a stop as well. Add a 1 day boycott of any vehicle moving and see how much crude backs up in the pipeline. I am in for the 1 day boycott but getting everyone to do it is another story. When it comes down to it and I have said it before "It is my wife, my 3 kids and myself and to hell with the rest". Sounds cruel but when you stop and think about it if it comes down to push and shove, then we will all do what it takes for our family to survive and that is that. My rant it over now.
I feel your pain!Alright you make a good point but who do you vote for when Larry. Curly, and Moe are running for office.
Barrack HUSSEIN Obama= Curly
Billary ROB'EM Clinton= Larry
John McCain= Moe
A. Do I vote at all ?
B. Do I vote for the best of three stooges ?
C. Or last move to foreign country and become recluse ?
If you have a clear cut choice for me, I'd love to hear it.........
That's a good point. I think (hope) it's going to come to a point where we're just totally fed up, and even then the change that comes will have to be incremental at best, because we have the entire deck stacked against us.
I agree with some of what you wrote. Although, a paragraph or spaces would be easier on the eyes. Not that it matters in the big scheme of life, but I quit patronizing Walmart when they started selling foreign goods. Not that everyone else doesn't do it, it just hit me harder when they did it. Why? Remember when the Walmart advertising focused on the fact that all their good were made in the USA? It wasn't that long ago and it was their main selling point to consumers. Once they built the empire, they switch over to **** near nothing but foreign goods. I never shop there as a result.
Even during those days, when Walmart had a "Made in America" sign on a sales rack the item was more often than not actually made in Southeast Asia or Mexico.Remember when the Walmart advertising focused on the fact that all their good were made in the USA? I would be fine with Wal-Mart pulling out of the fishing biz all together. Maybe the smaller shops would thrive. I rarely buy any fishing related items from them now, but we do buy our house hold items there.
Stoner
I rarely buy fishing stuff there as well. I used to, but I realized if you want a smaller business to succeed, you just can't go there when wal-mart doesn't have what you need. I would love to see more local tackle shops thrive in the absence of Wal-mart.
Wal Mart must not be making the money that they want or they would be staying in it.
I am guilty of shopping for the best prices. I need to make every dime count. I shop where I can get the best deal. I hate to be that way but for me it is about what is the cheapest.
I try to use local shops when I can.
I will vote this year only because It is a right. But, there is not much choice.
Did anyone know that the ship yard workers stopped work (loading and unloading ships at ports on the West Coast) for a day? There are union guys... longshoremen and you don't mess with these guys.
One way to stop the goods from overseas coming into our country it the shut down the ports.
China can't get their goods to Walmart if they can't offload them on our docks.
And if the working men were to all get together we could shut this country down until the leaders get off their hind ends and pass legislation that will put us at WAR with OPEC. We need to get OPEC neck in our grip and squeeze them hard. After all they are have us by the balls and are squeezing us more every day.
It's time to fight back before it's too lake.
This country and the vast majority of the people are not going to survive with this high gas prices.
It's time to get off our asses and do something. Anything is better than nothing or not even trying.
The America public reminds me of that fat guy in the movie Deliverance. He just pulled his pants down and bent over. Well I am not content to give him to hillbillies or the **** Arabs without a fight.
High Gas prices will keep a lot more people home this summer. Less fishing trips and less participants at Fishing Tournaments. People can't afford to fill up those Big SUV an pull those big rigs though the mountains and valleys at these prices.
Doggone it Moose I like you and the way you think, if there's something we can do I'm ready to stand right by ya brother. I'm old and fat but I can still cause a Ruckess. You just fired me up with that post, Whhhhooooooo Yaaaaaaaa.Did anyone know that the ship yard workers stopped work (loading and unloading ships at ports on the West Coast) for a day? Walmart gets almost nothing from me on fishing equipment dollars. I go to the local shop in Lexington (Backwaters) these guys appreciate my business and they are great guys as well.![]()

it all sounds good about boycotting the gas prices but it takes more then a handful of people too make a difference,if there was only a way too take a few days or more off from buying gas/diesel then they might come around too our side but who can take off work? who can walk 30 miles too work?
