There are a lot of things to consider. The previous owner might have done that speed with a light load no gas and livewells empty. As far as the chine walk it is a matter of seat time and weight distribution. Try moving your heavier items to the rear compartmets. Your just going to have to play with it.

Try droping the motor down a 1/4" at a time until you get it where you like it. You want the boat to have good lift but not throwing a big rostertail. Play around with the jackplate you will get it where you like it.

you may actually need to raise the motor a little, any pad boat will walk when
you get them up and running, picture setting a v on a flat surface and try to keep it from tipping over.make sure your steering cables are adjusted, much play in them and you'll never drive it,that prop needs to go for best performance,if all is set up seat time is all that will fix it.make high speed runs and hold a little left hand pressure on the wheel, just enough to keep the hull in a slight turn if it starts to get away trim down til it quits and try again, those boats usually weren't hard to drive so just practice, with 200 i would suspect it was empty to get 72mph,it usually takes a good 225 to get 70 out of them with a laod.propshaft should be in the 4.25 below range to start and go up a 1\4 at time best height will be about 3.75 probably.

Okay, somebody tell me how to make my Pontoon boat chine walk.....please.....last week at Cumberland when running wide open, I had a pair of swimming ducks pass me. One of them had to slow down so I could catch up.

HurricaneBob, I would say a Pratt-Whitney F100 Turbofan Jet Engine mounted mid sub-hull run on a Naptha-Kersosene mixture with just a dab of cheetah urine should do it.
