Best time for mat fishing?

Wanting to come down to Guntersville later this year for the rat bite. Any suggestions as to a better time?

Late August or September is generally prime mat fishing. If we don't have any tropical storm winds that break up the mats ... October can produce some fantastic mat fishing days. Usually a "big blow" comes through and destroys the mats for the October bite though.

Be sure to brings plenty of chips and hot sauce for all the hydrilla gnats you'll be eating ... and something to wash them down too.

Usually some good mat action around the 10th or so of September. Good luck!
