As I look forward to it I dread it at the same time. For me once Memorial Day hits the spring time fishing is officially over and I become almost nocturnal. Why you ask, the masses of newby's with their jetskis, wavemakers, and my personal favorite the 40 foot cabin cruiser owners who think they own the lake with their massive 6 foot swells. Yes I know they have just as much right to be there as I do and some cabin cruiser owners actually KNOW HOW TO OPERATE THEIR SWAMP MONSTERS. All that being said do you guys find yourself just dreading it and get off the lake so the WAKE PLATOON can have the lake. I know I know, find a place to hide from them, that's how I sometimes cope to, but sorry I just dread it. I'll be at Cumberland this weekend and believe me I'll have my radar up as I've almost been sank there more times than we can mention in this post. I guess I feel cabin cruiser owners should have to pass some sort of test before venturing out on the water, those things are dangerous and with the wrong person, maybe even drunk behind the wheel they can even become deadly. I guess I just had to vent and I'm not trying to down anybody or slam I just wish people could use more common sense sometimes. Good luck this weekend fellas and be careful out there.

i am goin out too and i am right now tryin to figure out the best strategy and which lake because u wont catch me on cland with the ohio navy running up and down the lake i am either goin to dale or norris cause well laurel is just laurel and its about just as bad as cland anymore..... i am thinkin monday day and fish till i am ready to sink some donzi's.... i will pst my results adn lake too....
Ryan, Dale is getting just as bad Cumberland if not worse sometimes. We'll all post our trials and tribulations when we return, should be quite colorful. You do have to love the Ohio Navy though, LOL.
They have already started. I was Crappie fishing at Cumberland yesterday and had 3 cabin cruisers roll by. Once I was near the bank and was almost run ashore. As if the wind wasn't bad enough cabin cruisers causing white caps nearly drove me nuts.
Me, I'm going to cut the grass, read a book, and watch DVDS.I gave up on most week ends a few years ago. One of the nice things about being retired.By the way, filled up this morning in burkesville, cause I needed to take my friend to Louisville, it was 3.70 a gal. filled up at glascow on the way back, 3.62. Burkesville went5 to 3.85. the nuts will be out this week endeven at night, and it wont get better till late october. No one seems to care how high the price of fuel goes up to.How did a holiday week end start on thursday?and last till tuesday?
I'm in 100% agreement with all you guys on this subject of holiday weekend fishing, fishing being over until October, etc...I'm sort of like Mhall in that I basically shut down my fishing at this time of year...its times like these that I need to read a good post from Elnut to sort of get a desire to go...I remember dicussing this one time before and he replied about how good fishing could be during every month of the year (gotta love a post like that!)
As for me and fishing from now through October...it will be slim to none most likely and will most likely take place in a river or stream somewhere....and a farm pond until it gets too covered with moss, duckweed, etc to fish. Unless...UNLESS I decide to try out a plastic frog, maybe one with a hollow body..retrieve that sucker across the top of that pond scum and see what she'll do!
Happy Summer to everyone!
I 'm with all you guys..but Im not gonna quit...I just get on the water an hour before daylight and fish till I see the first nutjob in his cruiser shootin across the lake with his bow straight up in the air
Let's play play big weekend BINGO!!!
B - You see a moron plowing through the no wake zone at full throttle because he/she forgot to put the plug in.
I - You see someone's boat slide off the trailer and end up in the middle of the ramp.
N - You get swamped by jet skis and wakeboard boats
G - Someone hits your vehicle/boat trailer in the parking lot and doesn't leave a note.
O - You have to tow a drunk boater to the boat dock to fill up on gas and beers.
FREE - You see someone block the boat ramp because they don't know how to back a boat in.
I probably have a leg up on all you doods, cause I'll be down at Barren this weekend.
Have fun and be safe!!
I'll still be out but stay away from the weekends, and plus the fossil beds kind of weed out any boats that don't know there way. lol. And the only buckeye navy that I have to deal with are coming down I-71 on my way. Mark give me a call if you get tired of dealing with them down at the big C. Dizzle I allready have a O...But nobody gave me a tow back I paddled..lol Chuck
crap, I won't make down to Barren till Friday night... I may just get beat at my own game... LOL
Hey Mark, where were all those wavemakers when we needed em?![]()
I will be down at Barren trying to cross the lake at Bailey's Point. Last year, it was launch your boat, slowly pull out and wait 10-30 minutes before you think it might be safe enough to cross the lake.
Be safe everybody!
