    cumberland by canoe

I have been wanting to fish the cumberland tailwater for a couple of years now and I think I am going to finally get the chance this weekend. I was thinking of fishing by canoe. They are mainly running one generator and I was wanting to know how this is for canoeing? Too much current? I would appreciate and advice. thanks

Perfect conditions for a canoe. Just keep track of where you are so you can make your take-out by nightfall. As always, remember the water is coooold. Take along some dry clothes in a water proof bag just incase. Small spinners and cranks for trout. Enjoy your trip.

    Re: cumberland by canoe

I've made the trip via canoe a couple of times. The shortest route we took was putting in at the dam and taking out at Rockhouse. The much longer version is putting in at Rockhouse and taking out at Burkesville. The second one takes much more time, and is much better if you can take a small trolling motor w/ battery. I also second everything that Birdstrike said.

    Re: cumberland by canoe

We canoe it a few times a year, and one generator is perfect. The route I usually take is to put in at Helms Landing and take out at Winfreys Ferry. It's about a 10 or 11 mile float I would guess, and there are some great shoals to fish along the way. I usually stop at the rockhouse to stretch my legs and eat lunch.
