Kids Derby weekend coming up
Well it is that time of the year when Wolf Creek trout hatchery has the Kids Derby. I rented my camp site in December. We are going down on friday the 6th, were wondering has anyone been fishing the river around there in a boat so the big kids can get a little serious fishing in as well as the kids. Are the Stripe getting all the way up toward the spillway? since we are pulling the camper I will be using a jon boat with a trolling motor and float around the point to the dirt ramp from the dam ramp. Oh if you have kids and don't mind a crowd do not miss one of these derbys every kid is a winner and there are door prizes for every one who enters. The fishing is divided up in age groups and there is a special area for toddlers where they can have help to land their fish from a tank. Walmart was a sponser last year and every kid got a tackle box or rod and reel, and a few winners got larger prizes including a bike. But prizes aside this is a great time for mom and dad and the kids to be together and a new fisher person is born every time a toddler lands that trout. This will be the 5th year in a row that we have attended my 10 year old grandaughter knows every crook and cranny of the creek below the paved area and fishes for the big ones, her best so far measured in at 22 inches. her photo is a treasure that money cann't buy! as soon as the first warm spell of spring it's can we go trout fishing this week end Poppy. and the four year old had her mickey rod and reel she won last year out today practicing in the back yard while I cooked out today. believe it or not she caught, by her own report, she landed a 2lb blue gill, a 5 pound bass, an 8lb catfish, and a 15lb rainbow, not a brown mind you they are not as pretty as rainbows. and to make this year even more special my wife and I will be having our 30th anniversy on the 6th. So if you are going to be camping there this weekend and seen a Nanny and a Poppy in a palimino camper and two blond girls running circles around us stop by and say hello, we can have an RC and a moon pie, and lie about fishing for a while. Well like my uncle used to say you should have been here yesterday I was really catching them!
