I usually go solo. Sometimes it's nice to have a buddy in the boat, but mostly by myself. It's more relaxing and quiet. Son-in-law oversleeps so I bang on his house and wake him up. I just plan on picking him up 1/2 hour sooner than I usually would so after waking him up and waiting on him to get his stuff together we are still on time. I only give him a 10 minute window. If he aint up by then I'm going without him.

I usually go solo also. Like Dester, I only miss having someone along to help load and unload the boat. I get tired of hearing all the excuses people will give for not wanting to go or for cancelling at the last minute. Also, I don't have to listen to them complain or say that they should have stayed home because the fish aren't biting anyway.

I've done that TOO...............and on top of that, left the **** thing running.

Try finding someone at 4:0am to come open the freakin thing.........

I ended up calling my wife..........SHE had not let me forget about that one.

Just like not letting me forget about letting "waterboy" back the truck down. Well he was messing around with the TRUCK keys, and dropped them overboard. NO AMOUNT of SEARCHING found them. My wonderful wife drove 2 hours to bring me a spare.

Now, some of this was PARTLY her fault..........she took the spare truck key out of my boat, so I had NO SPARE.........

Waterboy was beaten to a pulp, and buried somewhere in the Glendale fish and recreation area .........by my wife.

    Re: cant rely on people

I'm another soloist. But up north had a buddy and we worked together, spent more time together than we did with our wives. But he's still working, I've been out to pasture for 15+ yrs. Met a guy who wanted a seat musky fishing, and he got it, the front one! Nice kid going to Uof L, and he knew the lake. When we fished lake michigan, sometimes I'd see a guy fishing off shore and asked if wanted to go out, it was really good if he knew how to run a boat while I was setting up the down riggers and planer boards.

Dang! That happened to us this weekend. It was just as funny that I never thought of using my truck to take you to get your spare key. Even after you worked on trying to brake into your truck it never crossed my mind. I'm glad you thought of it when you did, cause the next thing you were going to do was brake the window. That would have been expensive.
This was ok. Oversleeping is a different story.

    Re: cant rely on people

Had a guy offer to help me load my boat and me to help load his. We got my boat trailered and then I backed his truck down the ramp, got out, shut the door and locked his keys in the truck.....duh! It was one of them that automatically locks when you shut the door. I had thrown the keys up on the dash. He had to call and wake up his wife at 2:00 am and she wasn't happy!

First, for safety sake I always roll my window DOWN when loading or unloading trailer. That also insures that I'll never lock myself out of my vehicle.

    1. Find freinds who like to fish as much as you do (I have 4 or 5 I can count on).
    2. If someone does stand you up, have grace and patience for their situation. My cousin and I had issues with this for a while. He "gets it" and does the right thing now. We've had some good trips together lately...
