Back from Laurel

Just got back. Fished from midnight till 11 this morning. Had no luck at all. Caught a keeper smallmouth and a throw back lm. Started throwing thundersticks when we got there bc we heard all sorts of fish on the banks. No joke every 10 at least one smacked the top in a lot of cases multiple hits on the top but no takers. This was happening everywhere from the time we put in till bout daylight? Couldnt catch what they was, probally trout though not very sure. Heard a few times some come up and get them. We dropped lights bout 3 and had a whole lot of baitfish but not flashes. Caught the smallmouth on top water with a hulla popper, had a few others smack it but no hook set. Caught the lm on a bandit crankbait. All and all bad night at the dead sea. Didnt see no one out. There wasnt a single truck at the ramp.

Always been a tough lake to fish for me. Live 15 minutes from there and try to avoid it if i can. Heading to Cherokee this weekend although I'm not getting good reports from there either.

when fishing laurel and the fish are busting on top i try to throw something with out a lot of rattle like a long a or a 550 a c shinner .not had a lot of luck with red fin or thunder stick . i guess the fish are wilder in the clear water.
