    Elkhorn Info Please

I know there are some people here very familar with elkhorn in Frankfort area. I'm looking to take a buddy from louisville fishing tomorrow, and we are looking at the elkhorn since it is half way between us.

So, can anyone suggest a good place to wadefish from? Looking for info on where to put in (i.e. road name, landmark, etc.). I'm not looking for people's favorites, but also don't really want to fish the most "popular" or crowed places. Looking to chase some smallies or largemouth. i may also have access to a canoe, so any info on a place that i can paddle up stream then float back to car would be good as well.
Thanks for helping a man out!

Go to CANOE Ky.. you can park and wade upstream or downstream from there. OR go to knights bridge and wade down.

Water is extremely low right now. I'd personally find somewhere with a little more flow.

    Re: Elkhorn Info Please

I took my 5 year old son out to Pfeiffer Fish Hatchery yesterday and we had a blast. Out of Frankfort, follow 127 North towards Owenton the road to the hatchery is on your right and is marked. You can park inside the hatchery right next to the creek. The gate to the hatchery opens at 7am and closes at 3PM. It's a great place to take a youngster. This place does get it's fair share of fisherman, but the wading is easy and the parking relatively safe for your vehicle. If I'm solo, I'll wade several miles in either direction so I know I'm hitting places others aren't bothering to get to. Yesterday, my son used an ultralight spinning rod rigged with a roostertail. He caught 1 catfish and 2 smallmouth. The water level is approximately 5 inches below summer pool so, yes, it is low like everywhere else seems to be. Contact Canoe KY in Peaks Mill if you have a canoe or kayak. They'll be able to tell you where the best place to put in is based on how long you want to be out, etc. They'll also provide pick-up and drop-off service for a fee.
