    Electrofishing?!?!?!

Hey guys, I was just browsing one of the car forums that I frequent when I stumbled across this:

    http://forums.corral.net/forums/showthread.php?p=7855964&posted=1#post7855964

Apparently the guy has bought some kind of shocking device, and is doing all of his "fishing" that way. He has even gone as far as catching a 10.5lb LM with this tactic and filleted it. Check the thread, he even has pics. Figured I'd share this and see if you guys felt as strongly as I do about it.....

This is just sad the day that people do and let others do this sort of thing I will quit the whole sport. I for one wish I saw this type of madness on a lake so I have a good reason to sink there boat!

I hate to see this kind of crap, but is it illegal? I feel it SHOULD BE, but if it is not maybe people like us need to write some letters and try and affect change in the situation. I don't know if it is, or is not, but does anyone else?

Catching, killing, etc., of game or nongame fish by means not expressly allowed.
    (a) It shall be unlawful for any person to take, catch, stun or kill or attempt to take, catch, stun or kill any game or nongame fish by any means other than those which are expressly allowed by law or regulation of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources in any of the public waters of this state.

    (b) Any person who uses any electrical device or any other device or instrument capable of taking, catching, stunning or killing game or nongame fish, which is not expressly allowed by law or regulation of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources shall be in violation of this section, and such violation shall be punishable by a fine of not less than $50.00 nor more than $500.00. Any person convicted the second time of violating any of the provisions of this section shall be guilty of a misdemeanor and shall be punished by a fine of not less than $200.00 nor more than $500.00; and the court, at its discretion, may also impose a jail sentence of not longer than six months.

    (c) The possession of any electrical device or any other device or instrument, on the bank of a public stream or other public body of water or in a boat on such water which is capable of taking, catching, stunning or killing fish and which device or instrument is not expressly allowed by law or regulation of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources shall be prima facie evidence that the device or instrument is being used illegally for the purpose of taking, catching, stunning or killing or attempting to take, catch, stun or kill game or nongame fish.

Thanks for the info, now I vote we take away the fines and jail sentences, that stuff doesn't work anyway, and we use a more "biblical" approach. I vote we go with the old "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" approach and stun them till they are "almost dead" on the 1st violation. On the 2nd, we finish the job like they are doing to the fish. I strongly believe this will deter any others from taking up this method of killing fish
    Just my thoughts though.

Hold on there fella's......read the entire post before you jump to conclusions.
    #1 private ponds
    #2 population controll
    #3 food only
This guy is stirring the pot by posting the big bass and that is what he was wanting to do in the first place. Thus the title.
After reading the entire thread on this subject it makes sense to me. He is "Harvesting" for the freezer and does fish with hook and line for the sport. In my opinion he does have some ligit points.

Private ponds or not, it's illegal to fish that way. I didn't read the entire thread, so I don't know exactly how he's doing it, but it can be really dangerous. If he's not careful, he could end up earning himself a Darwin award. I wouldn't shed any tears for him.

I can't see him doing it in a public lake or waterway based upon reading the entire thread. Is it illegal in a private pond? I don't see how.

Well, I guess it depends on the state. Here in KY, most, if not all, fishing regs apply to private as well as public waters. For instance, if you have a pond in your back yard and invite me to fish there, by law I'd have to have a license, and I doubt it would be legal for either of us to electrofish. Maybe I'm wrong. But anyway, I don't think this joker owns a pond. He seems like one of the trolls inhabiting this board, and we probably shouldn't be giving him the time of day. So I'll stop feeding him

I say we pull an "Abu Ghraib" on him. You know, the wires to the testicles thing.

Don't get me wrong I wouldn't do it nor do I think much of it but he states he has permission to do this on that private pond. As a sportfisherman who rarely keeps fish to eat (I do but not Largemouth, Smallmouth or Ky bass) it just seems to easy and takes the fun out of it. JMO
