    Native walleye

The gas prices last weekend really hurt the tourist industry last weekend, from a fishermen tourist standpoint if there was a 50 pound striper that was swimming in our lake would people come? i would plan a trip from afar for a chance. 1980 with the striper population I would still come with the gas prices for a chance at a 40 which would be a very good chance. Not today for a 20, I would use that money on the cape where there might be one. walleye..I doubt we will have anyone to come here to spend money to catch small erie strain walleye that they can do up north with the potential to catch fish bigger than here,Just my opinion, I would not. I would think that we would never have the PWT here again, Just my opinion, which means nothing. The rest of of us are happy with what we have, so no plans for any improvement,no comment needed, just a rant

If you are going to Cape Cod, you better get a seal liscence. A lot of the guys I know up that way are getting tired of all the seals. Seems they like taking the stripers from people as they reel them in.

Reports are that there are a number of good stripers (30# +) in the lake. Don't forget the river too.

With all the Walleye I've been catching this year, there seems to be a decent population.

Could things be better, certainly. However, you also have to remember that the Dept of Fish/Wildlife only has so many $$ to spend. Gotta balance that across the entire state and a number of different species.

You have any viable solutions? May be the Dept of Fish/Wildlife would be interested in them.

Fished the PWT when it was here at C Land. Every pro I fished with was VERY upset about being here. The fish just weren't what they were used to catching. Also the prefish took place over the Memorial Day weekend (bad timing). Most pros were off the water by 10 am b/c of the churning water (jet ski and big boat traffic). I agree that we won't see them back for a long time.

Walleye are very abdundant in Lake Cumberland. We have this spring caught bunches of them at night fishing for the stripes. Most of them seem to be in the 19 to 24 inch range with an occassional bigger or smaller one, but I find them fairly easy to target at night. All that being said I wouldn't target walleye as they have the fight of a dead log. I've caught 10 inch bluegill that give more of a tussle than a 22 inch walleye. They are however great table fare as my wife fried me up some yesterday evening and my tongue almost slapped my brain sideways eatin'em, dang they were good. I want a slot limit put on the smallmouth at Cumberland bad but it aint gonna happen, as your walleye pipe dream probably won't either.
